Before joining BITOG, my ** favorite** oil was Valvoline (this thread is for those of us that identify a favorite). Did I know as much as I know now about TEOST, TBN, NOACK, VI, etc? NO, not even close. It was just about good marketing and arbitrary reasons. Since joining BITOG, I have had an information overload, acting like a kid in a candy store, constantly changing oil and oil preference. I think it has run its course now, though. What have I learned? At 5k mile intervals, stay with what you like. For me, that's Synpower that just so happens to score well on the TEOST test. What luck.

What about you?

I thought you settled on Castrol Edge which scored even better on that test??

As for me, I was using M1 before joining BITOG.

GTX was my oil of choice. It was all my family ever used and is still what my brother uses.

I still have plenty in my stash as well, including some 6qt boxes that were $9.99. They'll go in after winter.

Using the Edge in wifes car Quattro Pete. Synpower scored right behind Edge and I believe Amsoil.

I always used generic fill from fast lubes, was PYB or QSGB depending on which place, used to be $20 (now $30+) for lube, oil & filter. Mainly just because there are a half dozen of these places near me and really quick.
Since getting a "new" to me car and finding this site i have used QSUD in one car, bought 6 oci worth at AAP sale. Synpower, Napa Syn (got 3 changes on sale), or ST Syn in the van, and have a oil stash now, something i never heard or thought of.
I'm going to used GC through the summer in the car and have bunch of SM Maxlife to mix with Synpower around spring & fall. Got the cheap BOGO Peak dino for top-ups, and a bunch of QSGB not sure when or what to use in yet.
I have wanted to use Mobil1 HM & AFE but found so much other oil for cheaper and often can't bring myself to do extended drains, just too much habit guess, plus i don't get UOA's. But i do have a jug of 0w40 and some HDEO just bought compulsively

because of this site

GTX was always my go-to oil. But after BITOG I prefer MC SynBlend or PYB. Will buy synthetics like PP if I can get 5 quarts for less than $20.

Quaker State DeLuxe 10W-30 and 10W-40 in my dad's cars before I got a driver's license. Popular Science ran a story about the new SD then SE oils.
Austere, Brief, Common, De luxe, Extreme…I thought that was so cool at the time. BITOGer seeds planted.

Then it was jug oil on sale changed regularly in my own cars through young adulthood.

Then turbos came into the family and I felt blessed whenever I found Mobil1 0W-40 or Castrol 0W-30 on sale.
Still that way for the turbos.

Any 5W-30 synthetic for my non-turbo Volvo. Kira

I dumped Castrol GTX 10w30 in everything for years, usually with an orange can compliment. Never a single oil related problem.

Now that I'm much better informed, I spend way more time and effort on OCI's, but I don't get any better results!

I used M1 and MaxLife,. The only thing BITOG changed was my aversion to SOPUS oils. Now I use T6 in a number of vehicles.

I started with Quaker State on my first cars ('70s and '80s), shifted to Pennzoil for a while, then to Valvoline in the late '90s. Since coming to BITOG, I've run Chevron Delo for a bit, then Chevron PCMO, PP, Castrol Edge (the Buick hated it), and now QS Defy.
