I have bought the higher grade micro fiber towels (400+ thread count) from WM but still feel the quality could be better for dyring after washing , polishing , waxing , etc. with less swirl marks and in some cases fine scratches left as a result . *That said , what are your favorite micro fiber towels you have had good luck with that are a good buy ? What is important to me are : Larger size with some heft to them , good quality stitching , high thread count - most important are micro fiber towels that won't scratch or create swirl marks ! Hopefuly those with more experience than me in detailing undestand where I'm coming from and can chime in ...

My favourite MicroFibre Towel isn't microfibre; I prefer a 100% Cotton Towel.

I buy used diapers from the Diaper Service; they are extremely soft by the time they have been deemed too old to be returned to service after washing.

O'Reilly had a nice one that had what looked like a edge seam of silk, instead of the normal 'rough' edges. It would be nice for rubbing a small area aggressively instead of depleting the plushness of the microfiber nap.

These kind of towels, AFAIK, are like seven to ten dollars and probably 1.5 X 1.5 square feet. Quite plush and if you don't bare down or use them on chipped paint or poorly washed areas and launder them correctly- they may be a better value than you ever expected.

I don't use such towels. I have some stashed away and plan to. I just have a difficult time 'wearing' them out. So I want to wait until my vehicles are in their prime so I use a pristine cloth on a pristine paint job. I see it like using bath towels on a new Corvette. Or Cashmere on an ole heap rust bucket.

I like the ones that come in big bags from Sam's Club.

I do the "Garry Dean" method that uses a lot of towels. Works great, but you don't want to ever feel like you have to economize on towels. I typically go through the high twenties in a single wash.

I don't worry if the towel is soft enough; if the finish can't stand up to a Sam's Club MF towel, what chance does it have with the real world?

I think this one wins the "quotable" award!

Well, it's a statement that doesn't have the merit you think it does. Perhaps you're doing an IPA wipedown after a correction to prepare for a coating application. Some vehicle finishes are extremely soft, and with the goal of stripping wax - a cheapo towel can definitely mar your finish.

A dry MF run across bare paint can absolutely scratch it. This is why detailing products contain lubricants.

I don't necessarily think it's 100% accurate. I just liked it and MOSTLY agreed with it. 8-D

I think you'll be happy with them. Good size, good price, good quality. Super plush and suitable for wax removal/buffing and quick detailer or spray wax.

Re-post from a similar thread last summer... those towels at the first link are amazingly soft and plush.

As to a really nice/soft microfiber, I got some of these recently and they are the softest and plushest I have ever seen/touched:

They are intended for waterless wash which I think is why they have a relatively long nap. They are super soft so if someone was concerned that microfiber could really scratch, I would recommend these. Reasonable price too. My go to otherwise is :

It seems having around 600g/cm^2 makes for an excellent mf towel.

Nice - Thanks !!
