Hello again and my real father is 67 and finally retiring with a lot
Of savings and some Mopars. He doesn't seem like he knows what he wants to do though. The brother(real brother) and I are thinking of taking a road trip with him
Down ole' Route 66 the whole way. He has a 70' Dart he and I have been working on and even a 85' S-10 drag racing truck with a 383 stroker. Just curious if you guys have had a family member retire and didn't know how to adjust to it

He has his car hobby and money and time. I'm jealous.

Stay busy and stay active.

Yeah you're right Leo99. Plus now he has two "crumb snatchers" ahem grandsons to spoil also. He just seems to not know where to say start now that he's retired. I'm sure he'll figure something out soon

I think it's important he doesn't turn into a couch potato. Volunteering at the Salvation Army or similar would be rewarding. Meeting others that volunteer would be a good thing.

He is divorced and hates women cause of it. He loves working on anything mechanical also. So far, he loves the Vita Mix I got him for Christmas which is good

Yikes at 67 it's time to move and get some closure happening. Or a new friend.

Yeah I'm 'retired' but that's a good thing because if frees up time for philanthropic callings helping those less fortunate and nurturing quality relationships.
And hobbies.

Best wishes to your father!

Splinter: thank you. He gets along with his sisters and other women; divorce just left a real bad taste in his mouth

My dad retired at 60 after 40 years on the railroad, 2 years ago. He did not adjust that well. My parents are still married and had kids late so my brother an I are in our mid-late 20's. We bought him a project truck for a retirement gift, 55 GMC, awesome truck. He was a mechanic on the RR and is into old trucks. He complains about it but won't sell it, also won't work on it. Seems to have issues with the idea of anyone thinking they are somehow making him do something. (must be that union attitude). He's put on a ton of weight and was fat to begin with. We almost bought him a B series Mack, thank god we didn't.

I was retired about 2 months and one morning I woke up and realized that I don't have to be anywhere today. It was a complete attitude adjustment. I went up to my dad's place and spent 2 months helping him clean up his property. When I got back I started looking around at what I wanted to do but never had time. That was in 1993. I've been busy every since.

Thanks guys and you especially oldmoparguy1; my dad is staying busy with his dart project and loves to split firewood by hand as do I. He also loves canning and gardening also.

Thanks for the replies so far guys and ladies
