Didn't you mean "Never open a restaurant chain with your own money"?
Fat burger was one of the burger joints where you could get a beer so for that I thought it had a chance. However, going through some of names it owned, I haven’t seen a Ponderosa or Bonanza around here for years. They were places to get a steak for a reasonable price. Too bad.
As for the banks, shouldn’t the alarm bells go off at one Billion? Haven’t read the story but did this start with the Covid days?

We loved Fuddruckers! Best burgers around imo. Imagine my surprise when we drove an hour to dinner and the place was gone.
Never heard of them, but google tells me there about to open 40 in Florida

I can't imagine restaurants are doing well. I think everyone is out of cash.

Believe it or not there was a ponderosa off the interstate in Florence SC and one off the interstate in Richmond Hill GA. They were a decent place to grab a small steak and salad when I travelled alone for work - fast in and out.
Pandemic killed them both.
Sad to read. I really prefer Fat Burger over all the other burger places.

The debt being called is/was not huge compared to the large one we talk about here, but they have no cash and lousy assets.

First date with my wife we met at Fuddrucker's and then drove across the street to Bennington's. It was the start of the end of many restaurants closing. So many restaurants that closed the week after we ate there.
When in Florida, it's BurgerFi.
