Break in oil change on the 2023 Camaro SS 6.2 6 speed. Very happy to have changed the oil, but maybe just the filter would have been sufficient. Oil was dark, but nothing crazy.

This time, I took other forum members advice to let the oil filter drain before cutting. I stuck a straw from a finished brake kleen can into the ADBV and drained it into a separate pan from the one I used to drain the sump. The oil from the sump itself was dark but did not have a noticeable amount of sparkles when shining my light on it. The oil that drained from the dirty side of the filter in that separate pan was very sparkly. The oil filter definitely did its job. I also found some gasket or plastic pieces in the pleats. Any tears were as a result of prying the filter media. IMO, the last fram extra guard I cut open had stronger pleats (ph4967, but also a smaller filter). I couldnt tear those with my hand but these I could (a very, very good amount of force. Nothing to be concerned about). This is a good filter, but I wouldnt hesitate to use MP12060 from Walmart if those still come with silicone ADBV. Under warranty, I might just stick with these. The can is solid and filtration is good for OEM. Given the amount of crap in the filter, I'm happy to get it out before I start opening up. The break in procedure I used was basically GM's recommendation, no more than 4k RPM until past 500 miles and I kept it in lower gears for the first 200 miles or so to seat the rings. No noticeable consumption over 700 miles, I think that's a good sign.

You should be able to fit a PF63 or MP10575 if you want a filter that's a little bigger.
It might hang lower than I would want. Under warranty, I only want to use factory spec filter. Bypass a bit different too.
Next oil change will be at the dealership for the free one.

Congratulations! A relative of mine is buying a similar camaro this week. Im curious if the factory PF64 is constructed different than the Retail PF64

As previously mentioned... Great looking Camaro. Never a bad idea to drain the original fill. Get the break in stuff out you know. When you say 6 speed are you talking about a manual trans?

GM uses a PF63 on the Escalade V’s LT4, but the CT5-V Blackwing’s LT4 is a PF64. Same engine, different filter due to height of vehicles. Both filters have the same GM spec 22 psi bypass or they would only be using the PF64 on all LT4s. Just something I noticed on my personal vehicles when it was time for oil changes. I questioned it too, but the owner’s manual stated PF63 on Escalade V and PF64 on all other LT4 vehicles.

Looks like a torn pleat a couple rows from the joint seam?

Its cool to see and document the very first filter. This gives you an opportunity to monitor the life of the motor if you so choose to do so.
