Facebook wants a Photo ID to confirm my name

I recommend that people use all the security measures they can.

I have been on the Internet for decades, and there are always attempts to breach my security. That happens with everyone, and if you do not use the appropriate measures, your account will be hacked, sooner or later.

F Facebook. I had an account for a little over a month before I deleted it. It has to be one of the most annoying things on the planet. I'm not sure how people can get so caught up in it, but it is most likely because they need an ego boost. I have better things to do than take pictures of my breakfast and see how many people like it.

I use FB and enjoy connecting with people. I shouldn't be, but I'm kind of shocked at the people making the negative comments about FB being for children or just watching strangers. Reasonable intelligence seems to be very difficult for some.

My issue is with Facebook wanting people's IDs.

What I *think* happened was that an undercover hater - from church, at that - "reported" my account, after a friendly Inbox.. and now, Facebook has me on that script.

And you need to be a COP/LEO for a plate to yield a home address. False notion of security breach.

I love the username insights, though

though I won't feed that...

Isn't that the mobile (phone) version?

We require everyone using Facebook to use their authentic name and birthday. This way, you always know who you're connecting with. When we discover accounts that look fake or like they’re using fake information, we ask the owner to verify that they are who they say they are.

In most cases, the easiest way to verify your identity is to follow the on-screen steps to enter your mobile phone number and request a code.

If you can't verify your identity using your mobile number, you'll need to provide a copy of your photo ID. This could be a scanned copy or a close-up photo you've taken. We'll permanently delete this document after we resolve your issue. Review what types of IDs we accept.

So in otherwords, since our ToolMalfunction friend here is likely using a false FB handle (that can be used for spam to other FB members), they are cracking down. I know Ive had multiple friend requests from seemingly false and fake people, so there are questionable handles out there.

FB is a business like any other, and people can choose to or to no use it, and they can verify their members however they want.

Facebook's policy is intrusive. I only show my DL to police if I am being detained, etc.

You quote Facebook's policy, but I do not feel that then gives this company the right to personal info. So, in essence, I won't allow Facebook to verify my name. Not that way.

As mentioned, it would be stupid to provide identifiable info like that. And I still feel that license plates only yield identifiable info to police in a patrol car.

It is, yes.

Facebook app, redirect to a browser after "session expired." Screenshot from phone.

Well stated.

It's really not that difficult to understand at all. These types of threads and some individual replies only serve to garner more self attention and soothe a need to justify one's choices.

It's really not that hard at all for everyone to figure out. We all share part of the blame every time we respond to the attention seekers (hypocrisy noted).

McLovin! I knew it was you. How ya been?
Actually, FB is great, how else would we track those bragging, crazy, murderous, lunatic, attention-hungry terrorists?

Yes, this is real. They're trying to crack down on people using FB for criminal activity and other illicit purposes, like "cyber-bullying". They're simply trying to verify that you are in fact using your real name. I know a few people who had been using nicknames and have been forced to change them.

Upload a picture of a pig. As for me, no Facebook = no problem. Facebook along with Google Apple Microsoft just to name a few have been in bed with Big Brother for a long long time. Even the foil manufacturers made foil with micropores so you can't make hats anymore. ( last one was a joke )

It is really an uncomplicated issue. If you don't like Facebook, don't use it. I like it and use it responsibly and have never had an issue. It's nice to stay in touch with family and close friends. Using it in a RESPONSIBLE manner, you know, like an adult should, has resulted in 0 issue's for me for over 6 years now.

Thats what telephones are for.

Right. It's great to use your telephone to access facebook in order to stay in touch with family and close friends.

You're never being forced by law to use facebook nor is the law forcing you to surrender your data.
So what you are saying is already true, they don't have a right to the data; NOBODY is saying they do. You're volunteering it if you want to use their services.

If you don't want to use their service, so be it, nobody is forcing you to.

Even other services where you maybe believe the requirement is legitimate, those company still doesn't have a right, it's all voluntary.

Like if you need to apply for a loan but you're not very credit-worthy. The Financing company also doesn't have a "right" to your data, nobody is forcing you to provide it. But you also don't have a "right" to a loan. If you want that loan and service they are providing, you got to fulfill the requirements they are asking for.

IF you look you look young and attempt to buy some beer, they will ask to see your ID. They don't have a "right" to your driver's license, you can refuse to show them. But they can refuse to sell you the beer.

I think you might get madder at the new practice at some sites that require you to register and create an account with an email before you can see what they are selling. There's
a potential submarket here for the tin-foil hat folks where you could make a website that just gathers and shows that info to people who just want to see the results, but don't want to create an account first, and somehow make some money on the referrals.

Seems like the photo ID is a last resort to verify you who you are. I don't have a problem with this. I'm using my real name on FB and I use it cautiously and wisely.
