I just purchased a 2004 Ford F250. The manual states that the rear axle of this truck came filled with Motorcraft SAE 75W-140 High Performance Synthetic Rear Axle Lube, p/n XY-75W140-QL. Is this a good lube? Does anyone know who supplies it or what the specs are on it? I am a Mobil guy, so if I changed, I would replace with Mobil 1 75W-140 synthetic gear lube. Thank you. Philip.

Not sure on the spec's of the Motorcraft fluid, but from my recent experiences draining the diffs at 65K and 89K, I would drain your diff fluid after a few thousand miles. The metal accumulates in there and slowly grinds away at everthing. Water also will collect over time and mix with the gear lube. Ford notes these lifetime fills, but IMO should be drained every 25K - 30K miles.

Phillip,

I do not have the specs on the Motorcraft 75W140 lube, but the price is Golden. $18-22 per quart. I personally agree, use the Mobil I 75W140 if you have it available locally or you can order it from www.avlube.com.
