F150 transmission cooler

Looking at options for adding a transmission cooler to the 2011 F150 in sig. Unfortunately, it did not come with one (other than the in-radiator) from the factory and I'm looking for constructive comments or suggestions. The last time I installed one, all I have to do was cut the return line to the trans, put some flares into it and run rubber hosing to the auxiliary unit mounted up front.

I'm guessing the basic idea would be the same but I am very much unsure of what capacity/size cooler would be appropriate. Or would it be better to look for a scrapyard/used unit? If so does that mean I would need new transmission cooler lines?

Do you have a temperature read out for you transmission during operation?

You may find out that an additional transmission cooler will have little benefit.

Hmmm, the 08 at work with a 5.4 (2wd) has a HUGE trans cooler up in front of the radiator. It must be 2 foot long and 10 inches high and 2 inches thick I would guess.

All you need is the cooler and the lines for the new cooler, the other lines are the same, the mounting brackets should already be there. The trans has a thermostat in it and it opens at 185 degrees.

So this is what I have now (OEM basic tow package with hitch and 4-pin connector, nothing more). Looks like the cooler would drop right in with the proper lines to fit between the radiator out and the trans cooler return pipe.

I just read about this on an F150 forum a couple days ago. On F150s without the trans cooler, they did leave the spot open and the factory unit will fit. Some tow packages got it, others didn't, depending on capacity.

So I'm trying to piece together the full part numbers from the shortened ones they use in the parts diagram, is anybody able to confirm the following is correct for a 2011 F150 5.0 6spd 4x4 supercab 6.5ft bed:

Auto Trans Oil Cooler 7A095 (DL3Z-7A095-A??)
Auto Trans Oil Cooler Tube, Inlet 7C410 (9L3Z-7C410-B??)
Auto Trans Oil Cooler Tube, Outlet 7B028B (BL3Z-7B028-B??)
Hose Clamp 7C107 (8C2Z-7C107-A??) - Not sure if this would be needed or comes with the hoses.

Some trucks like mine got a transmission cooler, and there is clearly space on the bracket for a larger one.

All I've ever used are ATF coolers (plate and fin) from Ford trucks or Vans pulled from vehicles from the junk yard. $10 is the most I've ever paid for one and the ones I've pulled are in great shape. If you have a chance, take a stroll at a junk yard.I have them mounted on my GM and Toyota Trucks and GM cars. I looked for the largest coolers I could find that I could still easily mount on my vehicles. The Ford vehicles always had the best coolers from what I could tell.

This is true. I have one from an older Navigator mounted in my Buick wagon. Even with the factory transmission heater disconnected, it never creeps above 180°F. I've used ones from the Ford Focus, and those nice multi-coolers from the Lincoln LS.

I'm still trying to find a home for the one I yanked from a Super Duty. It's the size of a bed.

If you're doing some serious towing, the bigger the better.
