Please help me. I just recently purchased an '05 F-150 with a V-6 4.2L engine, automatic, 2 WD. It has 89K on it. Seems very solid and runs great! I do not know what the previous owner ran as far as oil goes but the dealership (it was Chrysler not the local Ford dealer) used Pennzoil when they changed it. It had been sitting about 6 months before I bought it. I'm told by several local mechanics that Pennzoil makes engines dirty and will cause early failure. Please tell me what oil would be good to use in this truck for the remainder of it's life.

Yes. However, I would like to add that the Pennzoil thing is a bunch of malarkey. Pennzoil is great stuff.

+1, or ANY oil brand you prefer to use. Also, you can use 5W30 oil too.

As a general rule of thumb, most "mechanics" know little to nothing about oil. Pennzoil Conventional is one of the best conventional motor oils you can buy.

I would keep using the Pennzoil and find a new mechanic.

Really just use your favorite name brand oil and you will be fine.
Pennzoil is just as good or better than any conventional oil out there.
I am currently using Quaker State 5W20 for my F150.

Any 0w20 or 5W20, conventional or synthetic, with the appropriate MC filter. My personal favorite is Mobil Super 5000, but anything from a major oil company would be as good as any other. Including Pennzoil.

They are correct. Pennzoil makes the worst oil ever. They shouldn't be allowed to sell it. You should use City Star, Liberty Gold, Bullet, Golden Stallion, XCEL, or Bullseye.
