The good old dirty Pennzoil that destroys engines story.... no wonder it's the #1 selling brand of motor oil.

As posted any name brand oil in the proper viscosity will be just dandy.

The Pennzoil meets the Ford specifications. The danger to the engines, as Trav points out, is misinformed mechanics, and not Pennzoil conventional, which is fully approved.

Our fleet mechanic at work yelled at me for putting Quaker State Conventional in my fiances Impala. He told me Pennzoil is junk and it's going to wax everything up in the engine. He saw me put Shell in my truck and told me it was great stuff. I don't think he realizes theyre all made by the same guys hahaha. He says Mobil 1 is the only thing anybody should use.

Mobil Super High Mileage 5w30. Great synthetic blend. Has seal conditioners, but is not a higher viscosity like most High Mileage oils.

The thing I have learned here is that really any oil is good as long as it meets the proper standards. No reason to put the high end Royal Purple, Mobil 1, etc., in it. I assume it would be good to just take it to the Ford dealer and have them change it to the Motorcraft synthetic or should I stick with Pennzoil?

You may want to run 5w30 and I can understand why, but it's not the grade spec'd so I would run Castrol GTX 5w-20. It's almost as thick as 5w30, and it lasts like a synthetic.

If you plan on doing it yourself, get whatever oil that's cheap and meets the specification, which would include Pennzoil, and have at it. If you like or need to get it done by someone else, there's nothing wrong whatsoever with having the dealer do it with their Motorcraft oil.

One of my friends ran a 96 F150 to 325k on Pennzoil conventional.It's as good a oil as you can buy.

If you notice in my signature I am using Pennzoil Platinum 5w20. It was such a great price at Walmart and $15 in rebates, they are practically paying me to use their oil. They were out of 5W30 so I bought the 5W20.
If you do it on your own, I highly recommend the MC FL-400S oil filter. Walmart sells them for. $3.97 each.

We don't get quite that lucky, and our Walmarts don't carry MC oil or filters, unfortunately. If one does prefer to get the work done for him, the Ford dealers up here are decently competitive, at least.
