So despite all the nay-saying, people are indeed buying the Eco-boost version of the F-150, for better or worse.

I have some family that are lifetime pickup (and one brand) buyers that have gone over to Ford. One is an Uncle who is just over 60 and has driven nothing but pickups made by a different company (I'm leaving them out because its not that relevant and don't want to make the thread into a discussion about them) for as long as I can remember.

The numbers show they are resonating with buyers, as you don't jump that much in sales volume without another company(s) losing customers.

I like their Fusion and Focus, and this is from someone who didn't use to be a fan of what they were putting on the road at all (way back when), but I've begun to look a lot harder at them as viable choices than I have in the past (I'm not a truck buyer, so its the cars I pay more attention to).

No gas engine gets good fuel economy when they tow. Why would the eco boost be any different?

Well you can't blame anyone for being skeptical when the thing has been advertised like the Second Coming!

It's going to be real interesting to watch as the "early development team" works the bugs out!

People like the "you can have your cake and eat it too" stuff like this engine. They also like the added fuel economy over a similarly powerful V8.

I can't wait to see what can be wrung out of this truck for fuel economy numbers using it as a commuter vehicle like most of them will be.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Considering the vast majority of F150s I see haul air 99% of the time and maybe 500ish lbs maximum any other time (big shopping trip to Sam's Club, including that new hojillion inch HDTV) I don't see why more buyers aren't going for the EcoBoost engine. ~40% sounds a bit low to me.

It would be easy to pass up when I saw that beautiful DOHC 5 liter V8 as an option!!!!

I KNOW what that motor is capable of, and I'm virtually certain it would have a lower incidence of repairs due to it being considerably less complex.

I'm used to getting a minimum of 250k miles out of a truck and do not feel confident in a twin turbo v-6 for the long haul.

Yepper, my supervisor just bought one (5.0L F-150). Owner of the company has a Platinum from the previous year (no 5.0) though I'm thinking he might get one once he sees how this thing works.

Add me as well.

Personally I dont worry about that much, Many a scandinavian Turbo charged car has made it to 300k and over.....

I'm really suprised at the take rate. I thought the Ecoboost would be a flop, and most customers would go for the new 5.0 V-8.

For years, the F150 had the old 5.0 V-8 as an option, it was popular, and now the new one is even better.

You are most certainly entitled to your opinion...

BUT you will notice the Swedes never even got close to this level of sophistication AND complexity! Might want to look up a Saab Aero and compare it to an Eboost. They're so far apart they're not even in the same zip code!

Please elaborate.

DOHC with continuously variable cam timing, twin turbos, intercooled, direct injection, fully variable all wheel drive, and a 70 db sound level at cruise in the Taurus SHO. There's more.

And then there's zero to 60 in less than 5 seconds and supposedly decent fuel economy. The jury is still out on that economy thing as I've yet to see one get better than 18 in normal driving.

Saab has been doing DOHC, intercooled turbos for 30 years. They have engines with VVT, direct injection, and for several years have offered a very sophisticated torque vectoring AWD system. Higher hp/l than the Ford if you're into that.

They also have their "Biopower" engines which take advantage of E85's higher octane with extra turbo boost to provide more power. This is way more sophisticated than the run of the mill E85-compatible cars. I think it's more accurate to say that Ford is finally catching up.

Ouch, you got me there! Unfortunately I am quite out of touch with Saab. But you have to admit they are not a marque well known in this country, I don't even know where a dealer is.

Looking at the specs for the 9-5 Aero XWD I see everything mentioned and more!

Interesting that the poor Saab is still way behind in acceleration, But I bet it handles and stops better than the Taurus.

Same apparent mileage and unbelievable curb weight, too!
