F-150 and Protege5 Tire Recommendations

My 2004 F-150 2wd is due for some new tires. OEM sizes are 235 75 R17 or 255 65 R17. It seems like all tires this size are expensive.

I also need tires for my 2002 Protege5. OEM size 195 50 R16 which only have offerings in "sport" tires with a wear rating of 400 or less. I am looking at a slightly larger 205 50 R16 which has offerings in touring tires with much higher wear ratings. Its had Toyo Proxes on it that are used up in about 25-30k. Any recommendations?

We have no snow or ice to worry about.

check craigslist, at least for the truck. I have found nearly new sets of factory ([censored] dueler HT or dunlop grandtrek) tires for my truck for $200, mounted and balanced on (steely) stock rims. But for $200 it sure beats the $700 I would spend on Bridgestone Dueler Revos or Michelin LTX.

I highly recommend Firestone Destination A/T's. I have 70,000 on them on my pick-up and they still look great......

Didn't mention what's O.E.on pickup , or how many miles on them?

Don't know what your budget is but I found plenty of tires that could be done for $500-600 installed. Shop brands like Hankook (OE on Ford's), Kumho, Cooper, Mastercraft, Dayton, etc.

As "alreadygone" mentioned, what exactly is on the truck now, size, brand and model? What about replacing them with the exact same tire?

I've bought and sold tires on e-bay with good results. I'm sure you can find a set of OE take-offs for a great price if you really want to pinch pennies.

Current tires are OEM Hankook Dynapro AS 235 75 R16. I don't care for them. They like to squeal on any smooth surfaces and they are weather checked a fair amount. They sound like a movie chase scene when I drive though a parking garage. Wear has been excellent though.

I don't necessarily want to pinch pennies, I am just looking for recommendations on a good set of tires, if they are a good value then even better.

any comments on changing sizes on the Protege5?
