Eye lash dandruff

Also everybody's eyes have eye mites. A family member had a larger number than normal and was put on a medication to control them. More than likely one of the meds he is using is for mites.

I just found out it’s a real thing, my 82 year old Dad has it. He kept picking around his eye because it was itchy. He went to see an ophthalmologist, and this is what they said my Dad has. He is now on three different medications to cure it.

Tis the season for the flakes that don’t melt
Is your dad a Swimmer, get him in a pool, if his head can fit into a 5-gallon bucket with water he can dunk his head for a bit. I guess the 5-gallon bucket thing would work depending on the size of someone's head. I have only put stuff in a 5-gallon bucket, I have had someone dump a 5-gallon bucket on my head, but I have never stuck my head into a 5-gallon bucket.

Here is what you do, if my water experiment does not work, back in the 1970's when I went swimming, I put on those Speedo swimming goggles, it is worth a shot.

Did you Dad ever smoke tobacco?

50 + years, he quit cold turkey 10 years ago.
So, your father quit smoking when he was 72 years old, my grandfather died from smoking a month before his 60th birthday, but he smoked inside his apartment most of the time. The reason I brought up the smoking is that the number 1 cause of certain health issues is smoking. There is nothing good about smoking, I did it from 2005 up until 2021, but I only had 6 cigarettes a day and I always smoked outside. I quit smoking because I got tired of the taste.

Here is my thought on certain health issues, if you smoke tobacco, it will shut down or limit your immune system to fight off certain things.

Eye scrubs. Just use a wash cloth and water. Close eyes and scrub left/right. Even a few days of this makes a huge difference.

My grandmother used to soak her eyes with cotton balls soaked in boiled water (cooled enough to the touch). She'd sit at the kitchen table, grab a cotton ball with chopsticks an place them over her closed eye for ~30 seconds or so. It must have some benefit; infection remedy or prevention would be my guess. It works for cuts and such.

I do this with warm water for the dog, to soften the eye schmutz for removal. He seems to enjoy the warmth and attention (he's my avitar).

I've had this before and what the doctor suggested and what worked well for me was to wash my eyelids and eyebrows with Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo. Just a gentle 20 scrub and rinse in the shower once a day and it was much better in a week and more or less gone in two weeks.

Now, if my eyes start itching I do the Johnson & Johnson's a few times and it clears right up.

Tea tree oil can help with dandruff. Straight tea tree oil is very strong and can potentially burn the skin. However, I would suggest a fully formulated face wash made with tea tree oil (Trader Joe’s has one) and have him use that daily

I’ve had blepharitis for about 10 years. It seems to be mostly genetic and can start at any time. If I’ve learned anything it’s that everyone reacts differently to different treatments.

The baby shampoo suggestion from an earlier comment works for some but for many it makes it worse.

I spent a few years aggressively treating it but the more I did the more it happened and itched. Warm compresses made it worse.

My personal experience is that using a tea tree wash once a day, in the shower, keeps it at bay. I use a Body Shop tea tree wash on my eyelids but there are many others. 10 seconds then rinsing it off is all I do.

I made the mistake of getting it on my eye once and that’s an experience I hope to avoid in the future!!

I've been using the OPTASE Tea Tree wash daily for several weeks. I've rubbed it around pretty vigorously without any hint of eye irritation. It leaves my eyes feeling quite good. One pump is plenty for both eyes. The bottle ought to last several months.

OPTASE wash at Amazon
