External HDD temp monitoring utility (for XP)?

I've never found any utilities that can query the SMART data from a drive (which includes the temperature) in a USB enclosure.

I'm not even sure the USB bridge chips would pass that data.

Since it's SATA, why not use an external SATA enclosure with the appropriate cable to connect it to your motherboard?

Brian,

I have it in an external SATA enclosure, but my computer is a notebook which prevents me from connecting the drive via SATA interface. I have to use USB between the enclosure and the notebook.

This may be the final word for now:

Why doesn't HDDlife monitor my USB disks?
Unfortunately, the controllers of USB hard drives do not support S.M.A.R.T. commands so it is impossible to determine the state of health for such disks.
