I have a Honda Civic Hybrid. It takes that small (tiny) filter that the rest of the newer Honda's use. Is there an extended (long) filter made for this vehicle that can be purchased in Canada. We have very few choices when it comes to oil filters.

Wix at NAPA stores, Baldwin certain places, Fram pretty much everywhere, and I have not seen anyone stock Purolator in my experience but I special order them through Bumper-to-Bumper.

The biggest filter that you will probably be able to find is a WIX 51064 or a 51381. In Fram, you'd be looking at a PH3593A or a PH3950. Baldwin would be a B141 or a B1421. You'll probably notice if you pick up any of these filters that they aren't much bigger than the standard OEM filter size. Filters that require the 20mm thread size like the one on your Honda just don't get any bigger than this. Usually it has to do with alloted space and clearence.

You could use a remote oil filter and then be able to use a bigger element with it.

I use the s2000 filter on my TL which is quite a bit bigger than what came on it. Since I use Amsoil it's an Eao20 filter.

Which S2000 filter equivalent, any idea? The catalog lists the normal 6607, 2808, 3593, 7317, etc. for both cars.

There is not alot of selection here at all. I have used NAPA (gold and silver), quaker state, defence, motomaster, fram and honda. I think that everything except the NAPA and quaker state are made by fram. Our local walmart only stocks fram and defence.

It's one of those boarder things. They get hammered for oil filters and have limited selection/distribution. Baldwin is available up there ..as is Amsoil. Wix did have a plant, but I think (iirc) that it wasn't for consumer use and made trade/quick lube filters. They weren't the WIX labeled filters. It has since closed, I believe.

I would not use a larger filter or remote/bypass filter on a hybrid. Hybrid engines cycle on-and-off and therefore do not run for long periods to "warm-up" to operating temps like non-hybrid gasoline engines. That's part of the reason why they typically use 0w-20 oil. Using larger filters or remote filters will add to the oil capacity and expose more oil to cold temps from being outside the engine block. I recommend using the OE small filter and if you are concerned about the filter collecting a lot of particles, change the filter between OCI's.

No Super Techs at Walmart - only fram and defence. My thinking for a larger filter was to increase oil capacity. It only takes 3.5 litres. The shut-off feature is disabled when the temp is below freezing. I ws thinking more of the hot, humid summers that we have and that more is better. What is your opinion?
Thanks for the replies!!

Kralinator is the name you are thinking of, it got converted to making Wix branded filters. Wix/NAPA, Fram and Baldwin are basically the only automotive filters sold up here, everything that isn't those three is OEM or Fram built. Canadian Tire stocks five brands of filters, all Fram. Purolator is uncommon but available and the easiest way to get them is to buy Motorcraft ones through Ford dealers, and oftentimes cheaper.

I paid $11.56 for a PureONE for my '99 Malibu with a 3100 on special order...and that was the jobber price. I need to measure clearance between the filter and crossmember on my car because I want to go to the longer size used on the 350 that fits but I don't want it to have clearance issues.

No they don't only the SuperTech or S2000 lubricants are available in Canadian wallwarts

The only filters I've seen are Frams.
They sometimes stock different items in Canada from Canadian mfg or distributors.
That way they can pretend ALL the profits aren't leaving Canada.
Same for Home Depot
