Explorer st or telluride?

Ford. At least you'll have more dealer choices when it does break and better aftermarket support.

Around here, Kia dealers are far and few.

Obviously these examples are ancient and have very little in common with the new Explorer. As stated-statistics shows the NEW REDESIGNED Explorer reliability is very poor.

https://www.motorbiscuit.com/the-2021-ford-explorer-has-a-1-reliability-score-on-consumer-reports/

Even I acknowledged that the launch was botched in 2020.

However, What I find humorous is using an article from 2020 when the source material (in this case: Consumer Reports) already has the 2021 data available. Interestingly, the 2021 model year shows a dramatic improvement from 2020, though Consumer Reports has not updated its "prediction" or its review, common with its usual sloppiness that is generally abhorred (or at least it used to be) on this website.

Regardless, would be nice to actually hear from folks with a Telluride or an Explorer in question. Near as I can tell, I'm the only one providing that view...

We looked at both (and the GMC Acadia, Subaru Ascent, and Honda Pilot). Chose the Explorer as it best met our needs and we could get what we wanted (though I had to drive 400+ miles to get it). More than that, it made the wife happy, and I have a good Ford Dealer for service (though this one has never been there).

If anyone actually has a question about the 20+ Explorer, I'm happy to answer. Again, zero problems to date.

I’ve always liked the Explorer/ Taurus platform. Has anything changed with the new body style?
Dad has a 2016 SHO with about 75k. Zero issues minus a random serpentine belt failure a few years ago.

The PTU can be a little worrisome so I’d try to find one with a cooler. Also, the EB has the water pump with the oil.

The entire thing has changed. It went back to rear wheel drive in 2020.

+1 for the Honda Pilot.

Check our the resale values of the Explorer and Telluride...
As long as owners keep vehicles...is that an issue...really? With prices (and availability) being what they are...the frequent trading of vehicles is probably grinding to a halt. I was one of those every three years for a pickup truck, but now trucks are $12,000 more (and rising steadily) than what I paid. And $15,000.00 "truck month" discounts are dead.

telluride suspension tuning isn't sporty anyway (it's no Mazda CX-9)... so its just as boring to drive
I would safely say that suspension tuning dynamics probably isn't even on the radar for most potential buyers. It's how many soccer kids and their gear will fit in it. Anecdotally- CX-9s are not big sellers so......

The Telluride would be my pick. The Hyundai Palisade is the same car, different body. I wouldn’t buy a first-year Ford product until they did some debugging(usually when they get an earful from Hertz or Enterprise for warranty claims as well as regular customers). But, there aren’t as many Kia dealers vs. Hyundai or Ford dealers.

Thanks for all the replies looks like my next step is to drive a Kia and see how it is. Like I said I drove the ST and I was super impressed with everything except the weird super tall digital display screen in the middle of the dash
I drove an XLT with the four-cylinder and the 10 speed transmission and it was too shifty for me. The 10 speed transmission in the ST with the 3.0 engine is a perfect match I thought

^^I would get this one. I'm not an suv guy, but that's a really sharp looking vehicle, especially the black one with the red emblems. Kias just look so goofy. The only Kia and Hyundai products I like are the Stinger and Genesis.

That 10spd with my 7.3 was always spot on...never hunted for gears.

I see several Tellies here and I always look for a tow hitch...nada

Ford has really cranked up their prices. Not dealer retail prices but go look at their ordering section online. I got a shock the other day.

After seeing how well our local sherif’s held up when he rolled it at 126 mph, I think I’d rather have the ford.

Good old Hutch... A miracle that incident didn't kill him. Won't call it an accident - leaving a sherriff's convention drunk in a county vehicle and driving over a 100 mph isn't an accident. Wanna bet how many times he had driven drunk before?
