While putting new water pump on my sons Saturn s ( 2002) and changing the oil, I noticed this dent in the down pipe.

This engine is a sohc 4cyl, makes 100 hp.

Would this have much effect on power? Or is it negliable on a low output engine?

Basically nothing when daily driving, at wot maybe but not much even then. Sure there is some difference because if not then automakers would have already made them skinnier to save on costs.

I had something similar to that happen to a 1982 Ford Granada Ghia. It was a single exhaust and the exhaust pipe got crunched like you show in your picture. The end result was some burned up exhaust valves in the cylinder head. Too much hot back pressure.
