I have a factory dual exhaust system on my Grand Marquis, and use a 500:1 ratio of TC-W3 at each fill up, which is ~120 ml.
The last time I filled up, I added a can of Liqui-Moly Ventil Sauber valve cleaner with the TC-W3 instead of waiting for the next fill up, and noticed a drop in fuel economy with the same driving style and conditions (12 Km/L to 13.3 Km/L). For some additional cleaning up, I added another can of LM this time round (on its own) and fuel economy actually went up to 11.7 Km/L (again same conditions)!
Yesterday, I noticed my right tail pipe was quite shiny when it used to be covered in soot. When I wiped it off, it was all oily but as clean as a whistle. The inside of the exhaust has very soft soot, which when you wipe off reveals clean and shiny stainless steel. The left hand side is as it was before, with no oil or any residue on it.
I showed this to my mechanic, and he said he never saw anything of the sort in all his 35 years in the trade and said it's definitely the additive. Is this anything to worry about? Should I keep using the valve cleaner on it's own as opposed to TC-W3? LM recommend Ventil Sauber at every fill up. Thanks!
