I went and picked up my dad's urn (his wishes were to be cremated). The urn is very heavy marble and costed about $300. I noticed on the bottom a small sticker that reads "made in China". Well maybe not everything is made in China. The frabic sack they gave me to place the urn in reads made in India

Wow. I hope your Dad wasn't a "buy USA" kinda guy. If he was, maybe you could talk to the funeral home and work something out.
Only if it bothers you, of course. Sorry about your loss.

He was not for outsourcing anymore than I am but he was the type to accept it since there's not much you can do about it. It's just that the item was not cheap and most of its value was in the materials. Nothing's sacred anymore at least not where something is made.

"They'll bury us"-- that's awful.

I was happy when my Grandpa died at age 97 after a lifetime of driving model Ts and other Fords that he rode in a Lincoln hearse.

That is a surprise.

Yah, play this game. Find 10 items or as many as you want in the room you in now. Pick up those items and see where it's made. 9 out of 10 items is made in China. It's scary yet funny how its true.

I was like....WOW....really.

I bought a new snow shovel the other day and I was surprised to read on it "Made in U.S.A." Who would have thunk it? I think the hated Fram filters are still made here too, along with a lot of Champs, and Purolators too. I wonder why we still make filters? It seems like exactly the type of product that could be made at a fraction of the cost overseas someplace.

The fact that quality and inexpensive oil filters can be made in the US is evidence that a lot of other things could still be made here too that aren't.

I agree........

I noticed the other day that both Colgate and Crest floss is made in China. I really don't want to be jamming some contaminated **** in between my teeth. It is a shame that even things that are mostly automated in their manufacture are being made in China. I bet alot of our pharmaceuticals are being made over there, where no government inspections can be made to insure safety.

It is not always about cost. There's a large amount of marble reserves that's in China, not available until recently because they couldn't harvest it with their old school technologies.

The only boots I try and buy are Red Wings and Danner....made in the USA. Some are now made elsewhere, but the majority are still outstanding quality Made in the USA. Winter Coats, and heavy duty pants I go to Filson. Some of their merchandise is not made in the USA so anything that says "imported" I bypass.

I love the Filson Tin Cloth, Shelter Cloth coats, vests and pants. They take a while to break in but they last forever, especially the Double Tin Pants.

It's a shame that all the quality manufacturing has left the USA and we've become a "throw away" society.

I even went back to shaving with a Gillette Double Edge Razor, Schick injector razor and Gem Single Edge Razor. All the quality double edge blades are made in Russia, Europe and India but they are a lot cheaper than any of the multi blade cartridge refills for the fusion. I can get 100 Great Double Edge blades made in Japan or Russia for less than 50 bucks and they last a couple of years.

Problem is you can't buy them in the USA at most retail stores. No, they want you to buy the Fusion Refills for $25 for a pack of 4. What a crazy world....lol

Is this the Gillette double edge razor made in Russia you are talking about http://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Oclock-Double-Safety-Blades/dp/B002E1S03W ? 100 razors for $25 is a very good deal if they are quality. The Gillete razors at the local stores are outrageously priced. At least $10 or more for a 4 or 5 count razor pack for anything 3 blade and up made in USA, I think they are made the US. I actually prefer the 2 blades and even those are $17 for 10 count packs and to top it all off they are made in Brasil. A few years back I was paying around $3 for a 10 pack of razors at stores, not anymore.

Those are just some of the razor blades made in Russia. The blades made in Japan are Feather and Kai and are super sharp.

The razor, that holds these blades, are the vintage Gillette Double Edge Razors from the 1950's and prior. Some are twist to open and you then drop the blade in while some are injectors make by Schick back in the 1950's and 1960's along with the Gem razors.

I had these razors for quite some time. Some belonged to my Father and others I picked up at antique stores.
If I can get 2 years of nice smooth shaves from 100 double edge razor blades....I'm way ahead of the game for what Gillette wants for 4 cartridges..they want $25.00 for 4 Carts that last only a month with daily shaves.

You can buy Round House work jeans for $30, made in Oklahoma. If you're into tactical (or tacticool) clothing, TAD gear is mostly made in USA and is top notch (and the price reflects it).

The problem is that these Cartridges are not made in the USA. They are made in the Far East, South America, India etc. Gillette moved all the Double Edge razor blade equipment to other parts of the world where men refuse to shave with anything other than double edge razor blades. They will laugh if the retail stores tried to sell them the 4 Cartridges for $25. Only in America....

Or worse, the government knows about China exporting lead laced products and does nothing (encourages the practice?)

I try, I really do - but I've been to China - I lived and breathed China for five years. I really love the people, the food, the older culture, the customs.... but I will never be "jamming some contaminated **** in between my teeth" either!

^ I hope you don't eat McDonalds then. Or the millions of pounds of e.coli infected beef each year.

And please find evidence of your claim that China encourages tainted products to go out.

I'm really am getting tired of all the China and Walmart bashing on this site. It's really getting old.
