I have when I ran out of regular dishwasher detergent. I tried a couple times with both trying to use as little as possible. But still got the same results...foam city!! Leaking out of the machine!

Looked like a Candid camera clip or a bad I Love Lucy episode.

Fess up fellas..............

Dude!! Well at least you admit it.

I did it once with liquid dish detergent when I was a young teen wanting to help mom out. Seemed like it took me hours to clean the mess and that sucker just kept foaming!!

"I tried a couple times with both " ZZ man

I did it once when I was a kid, Our kitchen floor was spotless after I cleaned up the mess.

When I was a kid, we didn't have a dishwasher. 'Cept me and my siblings, of course :)

Reminds me of something, tho. Last summer one of the new developments that went in had built a huge 4 tier waterfall at the entrance.

Yep, you guessed it, someone put in a LOT of some kind of soap and that thing had foam about 3 feet tall for many weeks!!

All it takes is one drop in a dishwasher to make loads of suds. I would say I would likely have tried it at some point except I worked for an appliance repair guy when I was a teenager during summer break.

i squirt some of the oxy type dish liquid in when i do the dishes.i also splash some white vinegar in also.never had a problem with foam.i wonder if the vinegar is responsible for that?

Thats not that bad, me and my girl friend were staying at a hotel. The bathroom had a jacuzzie(pardon spelling)

I thought it would be cool to get in. I proceded to put a little soap in the water. Thinking "yep its gonna be like a bubble bath"

It's a defoamer (vinegar).

Did it once as a teenager at an older lady friend's apartment.

My wife, who occasionally has a flashback or two from when her father would hand wash (in SCALDING HOT WATER) before putting the dishes in the dishwasher, would put soapy dishes in the d/w without rinsing. Minor eruptions ..and remedial sensitivity training for me after I pointed out the obvious.

I have heard of people doing light laundry loads in the dishwasher.
But just like with engine oil, anti foaming agents are needed for dedicated dishwashing soap.

on the opposite side
I had a appliance repairman tell me he has been called out to a few service calls where someone didn't want to throw out the rest of their non-HE laundry detergent when they got a new front loading clothes washer. They didn't think it would hurt anything for "just a couple loads". He'd inform them that not only is the repair going to cost $100 but their new $800 washer's warranty is void; all for $3 in laundry detergent.

Ha, when I lived in Illinois, one of the suburbs installed a large new fountain near one of the main intersections where a dilapidated house used to be. Early one morning I drove by and there were suds all the way out into the street!

I must have been laughing for 10 minutes. Apparently some kids poured detergent into it in the middle of the night. It happened again a couple of months later. After that they installed surveillance cameras and made sure the police kept a closer eye on it.

About a tablespoon or less of liquid dish soap seems to do the trick nicely, with no residual foam. At a dollar a bottle, it's a lot cheaper than buying special dishwasher soap, and the dishes come out just fine. It took a few trips to the kitchen on my knees with a towel before I got the amount right, though.

I have used HE washing powder in the dishwasher when we ran out of Cascade. No problems at all with bubbles: high efficiency powders do not foam. The only problems was that it (or the Oxyclean in it) left a white film over the glasses.
