Ever had an AT vehicle stall for no reason?

The check engine light came on because the engine was no longer spinning. No crank sensor pulse. Thats all. It likely died too quickly for it to catch what caused it.

Pump the brakes while applying the steering to load the idle. See if it breaks up/shuts off. Then check to see if your hose is loose to the booster. (yes, I've seen it suggested twice and it was also my first thought when you said you were using the brakes - this is just how I would determine if there was an issue there).

i had an 05 durango do that---no codes, CEL's or anything..... after a long time of cleaning and trouble-shooting with no success, it FINALLY threw a code....turned out the throttle position sensor was bad.....my mechanic told me on the phone that happens all the time---$20 part and the problem has been gone for over a year.

Or the relay is loosing power because of the ignition switch...

Yeah I could see that too...

One stall I wouldn't worry about. I remember my mother calling to tell me that her 2004 Maxima stalled on her while she was sitting at a light when it was a year or so old, never did it again.

My sister's Mazda 3 actually did this when it was nearly new. I was in the car when it happened. We were pulling out of a parking lot when it just shut off, exactly like my truck did. No sputtering or anything, it just cut off, and cranked right back up like nothing happened. It hasn't done it since.

As others mentioned there is always a reason, good luck finding it since there can be many causes. I had a Ford van back in 1987 that would stall clean for no reason at all. After dozens of trips back to the dealer and the best techs looking at it they had to buy it back. Hopefully your stalling doesn't happen again. If the gas tank was full I would start my search by looking at the IAC, fuel filter, and TPS. A bottle of Red Line Complete Fuel System cleaner won't hurt either. JMO

That could be it! Got to love Ford quirks. This truck has never failed to start or broken down, but it definitely has quirks. It does fun things like bouncing the speedometer around when completely stopped, and the OEM CD player would steal CDs for a period of days. Sometimes the radio would eject a CD a little bit, then snatch it back before I could grab it. And then once in a while it likes to put the fear of a major failure in you, only to seem as if nothing happened a few seconds later.

I guess it's payback for hitting the RPM limiter, hitting the speed limiter, brake stands, overloading, and taking it places 2WDs are not supposed to go.

I had a vehicle like that too. You end up wanting to pray over it before a long drive "just in case."

I don't think it is anything fuel related. That probably would have involved some sputtering. It just was off.

I tried to reproduce what happened, but I can't get it to stall again. If it does it again, I will start serious troubleshooting, but until then I'm not throwing parts and money at a one time incident that I can't reproduce.

My sister's Mazda 3 had it's one time stalling incident over four years ago and hasn't repeated it, so I'm hoping mine will be the same.

I wouldn't toss parts at it either until I could either get it to happen again, or tripped a CEL light and pulled a code. Anything else IMO is a guess at best.
