Even Yeti wiper springs don't let you use beam wipers on old wiper arms with worn springs

I have the Yeti wiper springs on an older Subaru because new wiper arms are no longer available.

With the springs on, the wipers actually sweep the entire swept area. Without them, they miss the bottom right corner.

I saw Trico Titan wipers on sale for 7.99, and they are US-made, too, so I thought I'd try them. Of course, even with the Yeti springs, they miss a huge part of the right side of the windshield. So I had to replace them, so I used the Bosch Excel+ which were $5. With the Bosch wipers, the whole area is swept.

Beam wipers are not usable on older cars with worn wiper arms, even with Yeti springs added on.

Trico makes "high mileage" wipers, but unfortunately, they are the beam style!

PIAA makes silicone wipers with the frame style, but they are over $20 each even on rock Auto. However, they are made in Japan. Denso Designer is almost as expensive. How are the Denso economy EVB wipers? They don't seem to offer the standard Denso anymore.

I don't know anything about them but just wanted to ask if you've settled on the Bosch for now? Every time I get wiper blades I need to google the different technologies but I don't have your problems though.

Yeah I'm probably going to keep the Bosch wipers for now. The Denso wipers are always sold out in at least one of the sizes I need :sneaky:

i’m a Bosch wiper fan boy. i get 4-5 years out of the Icon and now Focus lines.

however AAP manager gave me a set of the Silicone Rain X wipers to try out on my 05 accord and they squeak horrendously but wipe every molecule of water off the windshield.

Somewhat on the same subject. I do use a windshield washer fluid that includes Rain X to help bead up the rain on the windshield. Don't know if you can also try that or are already doing it.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but have you tried bending the blade to better match the windshield curve? I don't know about all beam blades but several I've had, did have a metal insert that allowed retaining the shape you bend them into.

Just a heads-up, there are currently lawsuits going against the Rain-X folks over those washer fluids, they apparently mess up fluid level sensors in some newer cars. Here's a post from this very site about it, with external links to more info.

they're just bragging that they have washer fluid level sensors :sneaky:

The piaa are awesome but are very soft and get chewed up on heavy ice and snow. Are the Yeti wiper arms like wiper huggies that attach to the wiper arms to keep the blades planted against the windshield? I had those on my geo with great success.

Yes, that's a good way to describe the Yeti wiper springs

I was going to start a thread about trico titans. I wish I could find them for $8, I didn’t really look. Napa had them on sale, if you call $50 a set on sale. These are fantastic. I’ve tried almost every wiper made, from silicone to Bosch, rain x, Powerstop, you name it. These are some of the best wipers I’ve ever used.

I suggest trying the VALEO traditional style blades in either the Titanium or 800 series on your older Subaru. They are available from Rockauto and Amazon (limited selection). VALEO is an OEM supplier and their traditional frame blades have been the best replacement wipers I have found in the aftermarket in regards to wipe quality and durability.

Yes, I have used Valeo Titanium traditional wipers, and I agree, they are good :)

Denso also has their conventional frame wipers back in stock. Now, it seems they only have the EVB Endurovision wipers and the expensive Designers.

I just wish I could find Nissan oem blades but they don’t exist. This winters snow and ice absolutely thrashed my oem blades, which I could get over 2 yrs out of. And they look slick to boot. Unfortunately all a dealer can get is value advantage and are actually quite good.

What year/model?

The “value advantage” really are heavy duty and work well. They just don’t look the same. Nissan oem wiper blades are some of the most durable I’ve ever used. I actually ditched them to early on my 18. They lasted 3 yrs on my 21.

18, 21 and a 24 Altima’s and a rogue. They all use 26 and 17” with j hooks.

ok, so all your cars are pretty new, so beams are usable on them, and even if the springs do get weak, you can still buy new wiper arms for them.

I wonder who supplies Nissan's OE wipers. They could use Denso/NWB, Valeo, Bosch, or even Trico. It's possible that they're Valeo, given Nissan's ties with Renault

Nissan seems to offer inserts for the OE wipers as well. so if you didn't toss them and still have them, you could just replace the inserts.

It looks like a supplier in China has the original oems, but I’m not willing to take the chance. There’s not a single dealership online that sells the factory wipers. Just value advantage. They’re not bad honestly. I’m 6 months into a set and they’ve seen ice and snow and are still perfect. I do take care of them though.
