EV for people who hate EV's...

How much did you pay for the solar?

(edit) Solar is probably a lot closer to justifying itself in CA with your high electricity rates. It won't ever justify itself here as compared to the kwh from the electric co-op, but, I am interested in having it in order to buy as little power from ERCOT as possible.
I paid close to $30K for the solar project, which was the solar array and a full re-roof with top notch shingles. I got 30% back from the Feds on my income taxes. Since I am on NEM2, I get 40+ cents per kWh for generation. Installed March 2018. I am way past break even point; for the foreseeable future I will pay about $10 per month to fuel the house (AC baby!) and the car.

Biggest no brainer given energy costs in Silicon Valley. Sometimes you get lucky.

In fairness the premise of this thread is a model S won't lure someone to try an EV, but a E-up will.

Now that I write it out I am sort of embarrassed for participating at all. :ROFLMAO:
I dunno. That's like saying a Prius will inspire a guy to buy a car but a BMW M3 won't. It's kinda the opposite for many of us.

I would like to own a Tesla. But I don't care for EV's.

I wish they made a ICE version. I think a Boxter engine would fit nicely.
Kind of defeats the purpose of the vehicle at that point. The shapes they went with wouldn't allow that to fit without major compromise. That is one thing about the Model 3 though, the front end is low like a Porsche, but doing so would give up some of the trunk if it was mid engine. It's not fitting up front and would completely mess up the balance of the car if it did.

It was tongue and cheek.

Read again, you can take one or the other

Any married couple can take a $27,500 deduction whether they own a house, live with their parents, rent or live in a motel

Yes, if you do own a house and your taxes and mortgage interest comes out to more than $27,500 you can itemize and take the higher amount instead of the $27,500

I’m still not sure how giving away $7500 to somebody buying a new car has anything to do with other tax deductions.
The $7500 is a gift whether or not you owe taxes or not
The 7500 is just your own money. I'd like mine back.

Yeah, and you gotta spend large to get a 10 second Porsche... A lot. Or any other car, for that matter.
Honestly not really. An old ls1 fbody on a staged shot with et streets and a big stall and juice friendly cam gets it. 10.33@134, to be precise. With 115k on the odo, lol! Knew a guy with the above combo. Total cost including car was like 15k in 2005ish. Now mechanically sound ls1 bodies are like 8500.

This thread may be a first, an EV owner writing about how much he likes his car and never mentioned the blindingly fast 0-60 and quarter mile times. :ROFLMAO:

there is always that...... along with being told about how fueling a gas car works, as if we haven't been doing it for 100 years.

On the juice it's pretty cheap.
On the motor not so much.

I don't have to own one, or even have rode in one to voice my thoughts. Anybody who pays taxes has every right to have a stong opinion of EV's. I fund their subsidies so I get to unapologetically speak up and out.

You're welcome to voice your thoughts. Just realize that they may be a bit uninformed without driving one. That's not an insult, it's reality. It usually is a strong uninformed opinion which means it's hard to take seriously.

I don't know where people get that they're funding subsidies. It's a tax credit. By the same vein we all "pay" fuel subsidies so how does that benefit me if I only own EVs? How is that different?

.... you can bet they don’t have more than one EV and the vast majority may have as many as three more gasoline cars in the family
My daughter and son-in-law have a Nissan Leaf and a Tesla Model 3 Long Range, both bought used. They have one other vehicle, a VW Westphalia van for family vacations but that may be for sale, having crxxxed out on the way home from their last camping trip.

The family was picked up at the roadside with our Model 3. That just doesn't sound right does it. But that's what happened.

Lets start with the fact that the rare earth metals that are needed in abundance for EV production come from very unfriendly nations. Then lets realize that EV batteries will need to be replaced at great expense, then what to do with the old batteries? How will we dispose of them envireo friendly? Parking garages were not built to accomodate the overweight EV's, and EV incentives are paid for with my tax dollars against my will. EV power stations are fueled by fossil fuels. The EV infrastructure is a drain on our grids.

None of that is "uninformed". In fact its "well informed". Lastly feel free to speak out about any fuel subsidies you don't like. No one is stopping you.

😂 Ok.

The only heavy EVs are the useless trucks.
