Really ?
Im shocked at what I am seeing, is this because this particular charging station is charging an outrageous kWh rate?
I dont know, sounds like this guy is pretty straight up. Yeah, I get it, social media and he could have presented more information such as gas price and kWh price... but either way.

What gives?
VERY relevant as far as I am concerned.

First off, I would expect the battery in the Caddy to be twice the size of most EV batteries. I believe there is a premium paid for the superchargers, like double the cost in some places.

First I've heard of this. With all the knocks against EV, charging costs vs gas hasn't been one of them.
Yeah, Im shocked but not completely as the station themselves sets the cost of charging. Being skeptical I kind of wonder what these stand alone charging stations will charge without nearby competition as EV become more popular. Most people who live in a home with only one EV will charge at home, assuming they arent taking trips.
With roughly half the country living in condos or apartments or families with more than one EV, for many charging at home is not an option.

I was going to say, at the risk of sounding negative, that this likely becomes more common as gasoline-powered vehicles exit the market. Sounds like you have similar concerns.

Yeah, I was just educated and I suspect much of the public doesnt understand this (including me until now) when the salesperson tells you that charging EVs is getting faster all the time. (even though it is still super slow compared to gasoline station)
Im sure they dont offer that information that it may cost more than gasoline!

I’ll say I’m not shocked. Some people occasionally disagree with my takes initially, but usually end up realizing I was more correct than not even though they didn’t like what I said.

Why do mousetraps work? Because the mouse never stops to wonder why the cheese is free. They’re just greedy for free stuff, and it leads to their demise. By the time they realize the folly of their ways, it’s too late.

It’s the same thing with people.

Well let's say I was just educated by this guy. IF we had an EV as a second car it would be home charged and our electric is dirt cheap at 10 cents kWh.
My son who works for BMW is hoping to order an electric in the next couple months through his employee program but he will charge at home, heck, he already had the electrician there to run the wire and hook up the outlet.

Im really surprised. I knew in the back of my mind it cost more to charge fast but this guy really put it out there on how much it can cost.

Didn’t @UncleDave post a thread about the Caddy’s charging rate and that it was significantly subpar compared to other manufacturers?

I know I have posted this before:

It all depends on the cost of electricity in your area vs. fuel.

High power charging is pricier than slow charging...but it was still roughly 50% the cost of a tank of premium in my experience. With our current PHEV we only charge at home...no more charging on the road. I will pay the extra to keep my trip moving, and why we switched back from full EV.

What's interesting about those charging rate graphs is the so-called "Partial Peak" from 9pm to midnight. That's not because demand is high, it's because solar output is low. You wouldn't demand is higher in the middle of the night.

TLDR "partial peak" is a misnomer.

This. Some places have free chargers now. The town where I live has two of them downtown, and expensive Teslas are constantly on them for the freebie. Eventually these chargers will disappear and people will pay a premium to charge an EV away from home. Higher-than-normal electric rates for EV chargers have already appeared in Europe as well.
