Eurol

I have bought Eurol Super Lite 5W-40 from time to time. Here it’s cheaper than the name brands, and as the quality of the oil is also good, as described below, it’s a good buy.

The oil company has acquired official approvals for the oil from here and there, one at a time. If I remember correctly they had official approval for Renault RN 0700 & RN 0710 many years ago. After that one expired they acquired some other approval. And after that again a different approval from the specifications they have list on the oil jug.

My quess is that in this way they can validate for themselves that their oil recipe is still good, without paying too much money to the official approval bodies. This keeps the costs down.

Currently they have official MB-229.3 approval for the Super Lite 5W-40. So it’s a good buy if the price is right (lower than the competitors).

For other viscosities, maybe also 5W-30 have had some official approvals, but for 5W-50 I haven’t seen any.

MB 229.1 and 229.3 are bloody old, they date from 1990s and millenium times.
However MB 229.5 and 229.51 are much more interesting as well as both VW
504 00 and BMW LL-04.
Actually Eurol Syntence SAE 5W-30 comes with VW 504 00/507 00 approval:

.... and MB 229.51 as you already mentioned.

Some higher viscosity oils are impossible to get certified for 229.5, but can be 229.3 or 229.1 . If those viscosities are what you want, what better certs are there?

I was thinking something like Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W-40 vs. Eurol Super Lite 5W-40, which are both fully synthetic oils with identical approval lists.

So being cheaper Eurol could be a better choice. But if they cost the same, I would just pick Mobil, as I trust it more.
