EU backing off 2035 ICE car ban

Sports cars are better as hybrids as they offer superior power where ICE lacks, off the line where any car spends vast majority of life. The efficiency and emissions gains are icing on the cake.
Sports car is MUCH more than off the line. Most popular car on tracks is Mazda Miata.
M5 is 2.5 tons! It is as heavy as Tahoe. That is ballistic missile it is not sports car.

Pulling CO2 from air is not particularly energy intensive. Dry ice is cheap.
Actually, this is why companies like Exxon are not that hesitant to sequester CO2 in underground formations. CO2 can be liquified and pumped down disposal wells and long as there is a reward for that. The fairly new Sturgeon refinery near Edmonton, Alberta has bitumen coming in from Fort Mac where it is converted to diesel fuel and the resulting CO2 from the process is sent by pipeline for underground disposal in a liquid form. They compress the CO2 gas to 2500 psi, then cool it down until it liquifies. This requires a 4800 HP six stage centrifugal compressor and then a 1740 HP refrigeration compressor package and then a 350 HP liquid CO2 pump. Some of the CO2 is pumped into aging oilfillds where it’s miscible with the existing oil still in place for enhanced recovery.

Imho, the only reason EVs took off is all the mining and extremely environmental and health damaging batteries production is done outside US and EU. Not only prices would be outrageous but add public outrage if production came home.

Germany just signed a deal with Serbia regarding lithium. Serbian president is wanna be dictator that just stole elections, is main cause of instability in the Balkans and never introduced sanctions against Russia. After that deal, Frence agreed to sell Serbia 12 new Dassault Rafale fighter jets.
Both countries have more lithium than Serbia, especially Germany.

Every country than didn't bend over to join sanctions has a dictator. Serbia was strong armed to purchase the fighters from France as a compromise and they are not getting any till after 2029. They can end up not getting them anyway just like Russia who purchased two Mistral chopper carriers they purchased from France.

The in between that fits his example is the 911 Hybrid-T. It uses a sandwich motor between the engine and transmission in addition to an electric motor on the turbo. It’s the perfect solution to torque fill on shifts. In addition to that the electric motor on the turbo can also do regen in addition to the sandwich motor.

This is the kind of hybrid I can get behind. I hope that makes it to the GTI or Golf R.

Sandwich motor is very popular in Europe, and everyone is doing it. Small diesel engines etc. M3 I think has that system.

Since I am familiar with this sale for 6+ months as part of my job, no one strong armed Serbia. It was only option and was pushed by air force. Their air force is trying to make politicians to move to the western aircrafts since 2010. Vucic had to do something as MIG29’s are coming to end of life, and opportunity came with this lithium thing. Rafale was only option as Americans would never sell anything similar to them, Britain would block eurofighter and Americans would block JAS39.
Vucic used lithium to get sale going as well as flexibility in EU accession talks. But behind everything is lithium.
As for sanctions, I was referring to Serbia as only European country not doing it (if you don’t count in Belarus) and yet, it is fine with EU, because, well, lithium.

They did. That is old news. China is backing off and going all other directions: nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, geothermal.
I grew up in town with 5 coal mines. I never heard anyone working in that industry saying: i hope my kid works in the coal mine. Coal is romanticized by people who have no idea how awful that is.
By the way, just bcs. China is doing it, doesn’t mean we have to. This reminds me of that sticker: “no airbags, we die like real men!”
Plus, we don't have enough minors to work in the mines.

Except for the extract-able quantity of copper, cobalt, nickle and lithium on the planet. 😟
Not really, technology in exploration and extraction is always improving. The US now has become the largest producer of oil in the world from extraction improvements, from oil formations that were previously uneconomical.
There's no reason to just blast CO2 into the atmosphere from fossil fuels until we cause huge climate changes, because we don't want to invest in some R&D for renewables! Even now, lots of old mine tailings are being reprocessed as either the "waste metals" have value now or the processing is economical with much lower concentrations.
I think using liquid biofuels in ICE or fuel cells, in conjunction with electricity and batteries is the way to go, and it was a bit presumptuous to think EV's only was the only way forward.
When oil was first discovered it was surely very expensive to make it into usable fuel and distribute in quantities to be useful, but obviously all the initial hurdles were cleared!

I see what you did there, lol. Actually not very funny after you think about it for a sec
When I ordered a pasty I asked the lady at the pasty bakery in Grass Valley if she sold pasties only to minors or also to adults. Unlike moi, she was not amused.
