ESET NOD32 Antivirus issue

I am having an issue with my ESET antivirus just shutting down. even while I am using the computer.
I did a scan this morning and all was well. While using the computer, I get a message that ESET is shut down. I go on and activate it and it is fine. This has happened several times.
I might also add that I have used ESET on the computer for several years, and the last time I renewed the AV, I purchase a disc from NewEgg, instead of renewing through the ESET website. On some of these messages, it tells me that my subscription expired earlier in 14, then it will pop on and say that the subscription is good through 2015.
This has become somewhat of a PITA and I welcome any input on how to correct. Thanks.
 
I have never heard of a problem like this with ESET. But I always buy my ESET program at a local store and not through a Newegg rebate offer either.

So probably either there is some sort of issue with the subscription or else malware might be trying to shut down the antivirus. So I suggest making sure that malware is not trying to shut down the antivirus by getting a second opinion-such as running the ESET online scan. Otherwise there is probably some sort of issue with and confusion about the subscription.

The only problems I have had with ESET was:

1. The last ESET NOD32 program I had was buggy. It gave me a bad impression of ESET. But the ESET Smart Security 7 I am using right now runs perfectly.

2. In the past I did see some Trojan Horse programs make it past ESET. But I think ESET has been improved.

According to AVTest and AVComparatives perhaps the very best antivirus programs are Bitdefender and Kaspersky. But I simply do not like Bitdefender because it has been buggy and I don't like how Kaspersky runs on a 64 bit operating system. And according to Woody Leonhard Bitdefender for a while was causing BSODs on Windows 8 computers (Go to AskWoody and type Bitdefender in Search). So who is Woody Leonhard? He has written books about Windows operating systems and has to know something.

All of this brings up another point. When Windows comes out with a new operating system sometimes there are major problems with AV programs. Some AV programs were simply incompatible with the new Windows O/S.

About the only AV program I am happy with right now is ESET. If I was having problems with ESET as well I would use Windows Defender (hey, it works) and HitmanPro (25 dollars a year for one computer), the free Malwarebytes, and the free ESET online scan.

I am becoming increasingly upset with modern AV software. It used to be in the past a person could buy any decent AV program and get adequate protection. Now some of these AV programs can actually cause major problems, especially when Microsoft comes out with a new operating system. Is their programming that bad?

And some of these AV programs themselves can be targeted by malware because of venerabilities in the software. They better improve their software. Because it is possible to just use Windows Defender (it works) and some other programs to have layers of defense.

If you are having too many problems I suggest buying ESET NOD32 in a store. If you own only one computer ESET NOD32 for one computer is about thirty bucks.
 
Did you uninstall the old version before reinstalling the new version? Not doing so can cause problems with lots of software including anti-virus/internet security software.

Go to the Eset kb page here to download the uninstaller/removal tool.

Use the Windows uninstaller first to remove everything you can, reboot and run the Eset Removal Tool, reboot once again.

You can then either reinstall from the disk or download the latest version of your product here.

One more tip, when installing software, especially your anti-virus or internet security software, give it elevated privileges by right clicking and choose "Run as Administrator".

Have manually uninstalled ESET and reinstalled it.
We'll see if that solves the problem.

You did two uninstalls?.... both thru Control Panel, then ESET website?
 
i had a problem with my anti virus and my pc person added a password and it solved the problem it seems a hacker hacked into my pc and just kept turning it off before i had the password

Added a password to what? The antivirus? So this hacker still has access to your computer, they just can't get to your antivirus to turn it off???

This brings up so much stuff I don't know where to begin. Perhaps you even need to notify ESET about all of this because if a hacker somewhere can get on your computer and turn the ESET NOD32 antivirus off maybe they need to know about that.

How many people use your computer? Is it just you? We would need to know a lot about all of this to even comment on all of this.

Uninstalled on the control panel. Tried doing it on the website, and it informed me that I had to do it manually.

Just myself and on occasion my wife.
When I put the ESET on the computer in March, I apparently did not remove the subscription from the previous year. So that probably explains why I have a screen coming up saying that I do not have antivirus protection, when in actuality I do, because then a screen comes up saying that my license is good through April, 2015.
It is strange because I installed this years license the same way that I installed it the year before and did not have this problem.

Well you don't actually need to do anything on the website except to download the removal tool and, if you want, download the latest version of your product, which is usually the best idea.

After that, you would use Windows Control Panel>Uninstall Programs> to uninstall, reboot, run the Removal tool you downloaded earlier, reboot again, and then reinstall.

If you're unable to uninstall from Windows Control Panel or are having problems with it you can try uninstalling in Safe Mode. Let us know which version of Windows you're using and I can tell you how to access Safe Mode, it changed in Windows 8, well, unless you're VERY fast! :-)

Running the Removal Tool and reinstall of the new version would still be done in Windows proper and don't forget to use elevated privileges on the install by right clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator" when you're installing the Removal Tool and the new version.

I just updated mine a minute ago and it won't go beyond 7.0.302.26. I am running Windows 8.1

OK, good, that's the latest version. I would have just installed that to begin with though "just in case".
