How come the Eastwood epoxy primer in QT is two part you mix together. But the spray can looks like a normal can of spray paint?

I thought epoxy was always a two part mixing process.

The spray primer is also a 2 part epoxy. The can is sealed with 2 separate isolated chambers. When you break the internal seal, it releases the activator and catalyzes the paint. The 2K clear coat urethane often used to recoat headlights comes in a similar 2-part aerosol spray can.

So once you break the seal you have 20 or 30 minutes to use the can and then toss it.

Not sure what the usable life is for the Eastwood primer, but the SprayMax 2K Clearcoat is advertised as being viable for 48 hours after the 2-parts are mixed together. I can personally attest that it is still useable 3 or 4 hours after the activator has been released. Go to 1 minute & 45 seconds in the video below to see how the activator is released.

But still you cannot put it back on the shelf and use it 6 months latter. So basically one priming job.

I've used Transtar Epoxy primer on several motorcycle and bicycle painting projects. One time, when my larger compressor was on the fritz, I was able to make due with my tiny 5.5 gallon California Air Tools compressor. I've got a couple of different high efficiency spray guns, though. Anyway, once you move to a real spray gun, it's hard to go backwards to rattle cans.

I have a feeling the Eastwood stuff is the same as SprayMax. Once activated, you have 48 hours at 70F to use it. Cooler or hotter ambient temperatures will affect this.
