Engineering Explained not happy with new Lucid Air

OutofSpec has been complaining about the software issues on the Lucids as well.

Wow, that video was really something. It's like Vinfast with a better PR team.

Wow! This is a real eye opener. I have always preferred the styling of the Lucid over the Tesla model S. (Actually, over the styling of any Tesla model.) But these sort of problems are inexcusable. Like Jason says in the video, these sort of problems should have been caught before the car ever left the assembly line.

I'm convinced Lucid is not long for this world in its current form and will eventually get acquired by China. Not being political, just honest.

In 5 years these are the 3 US EV automakers that will matter in the US:

#1: Tesla will remain on top. They should make a proper full-size 3-row SUV based on the Cybertruck underneth but with a more traditional exterior and either make the price lower or increase the range to compete with GM offerings. Also release the Cybercab as a purchasable vehicle with steering wheel and pedals if they can get it down to $25K retail price...

#2: GM will be the only legacy domestic brand on this list. Yes they lose money on EVs now but they're getting there. New Bolt (The "Boltium" as I call it) is going to be a big winner. It was not bright of them to drop the Brightdrop. I'm genuinely bummed out about that as I see A LOT of them by small businesses in our area.

#3: Rivian for three reasons. 1: now that Brightdrop is dead they're one of the few options for electric cargo vans that are on a proper EV platform with proper range (E-Transit and eSprinter are lame EV conversions with poor range). 2: Their more affordable consumer vehicles like R2 and R3 will be a hit. 3: VW partnership. 3.5: Scout is going to be popular with the Bronco crowd that are willing to spend a decent chunk of change on an off road personality vehicle but most just use it as a daily driver or for camping, not serious moab type stuff.

It sounds to me like this car is a throwback to the bad old days of the 2010s when everything was a touch screen. NO glovebox button? Really???

This car was designed by grad students wanting an exciting job at a tech startup, not people who actually know anything about cars.
No glovebox button is FINE when you make great software (Tesla). When your software sucks, the hardware almost doesn't matter.

Sometimes you have to make a stand. What happened to his wife wasn't business but we can't discuss it. Wonder what he'll buy next?

Totally get making a stand. Especially when ones wife is concerned.

Loving a product and hating a companies leadership have always been conflicts. Industry magnates are quite often terrible people.

Good question I wonder if the Gravity inherits the air problems.

I really like the guys product - he makes an effort to tell all 3 sides of a story.

Lucid still has the top two fastest charging ev's on the planet. Tesla can't touch them.
