I need to find a new engine for my brothers log splitter. I think he said it was a 6.5 horse tecumseh. I would like to go with the equivelant honda or briggs. He inquired about those harbor freight china motors, anybody ever used one of those?
Dont forget kohler ( if their still around) I Try not to buy china, unless its cups and saucers. Maybe you can track down a motor from a broken snowblower - or some old guy moving to florida.
I hear that! As much as I love my Kohler Command 20 and old Kohler K-series, they use a bit of gasoline (in lawn/garden tractor applications). One of those single cyl diesels in place of would be sweet.
I recently bought a Champion Generator with a 196cc Honda clone 6.5 h.p. engine. I ran the generator for five hours under varying heavy/moderate loads then did an oil change. I ran the hot oil through a coffee filter and I was surprised to see that there was virtually no glitter in the oil at all. It was probably the cleanest small engine that I had ever bought new and it runs as well or better than any other OPE engine I own.
I used to be pretty down on Chinese engines but after seeing this one in action, I'm truly impressed with how much they've improved the quality of their products. Here's a site to check out:
