1991 Chev K1500, 4.3 TBI engine. Approximately 96k miles. Engine "rattle". Seems to be coming from the oil pan. It is not always be audible from the cab, but can be heard from outside the cab and underneath the vehicle What button do I push to post a video?

P.S.: This vehicle needs new shocks badly. Don't want to spend the money if I am looking at major engine problems.

I think that engine has the bypass built into the oil filter mount.

Post the video on Youtube and include a link to it.

Just did. Was using Wix gold. Just changed oil and put on a Pure One because I couldn't find my two remaining Wix filters.

I just has a 1995 tbi 350 with a slight knock in the oil pan area. Turns out it spun the rod bearing. Can you pull the pan and inspect?

That's pretty loud. My knocking problem was intermittent and would only happen under no load. It was dead quiet under load. Then all of the sudden one day while trying to find where the noise was coming from the engine just seized. The flex plate is a good thing to check. I have had a broken one on my truck that made sort of a clicking / scraping noise

Yes, it is an automatic.Excuse the ignorance, but what is a flex plate? Part of the tranny?

O.K., just YouTubed it. I know what a flex plate is now.

It replaces the flywheel that a manual trans uses. A flex plate carries the ring gear for the starter. It bolts to the crankshaft. and the torque converter is bolted to it. It is mostly 1/8" sheet metal. They are prone to cracking and splitting. Early phases are noisy.

I did a youtube search. It looks like pulling the cover and inspecting is withing my realm of mechanical capabilities. I will check the torque converter bolts and inspect the flex plate as much as possible. If it is a cracked flex plate, what happens if it "gives way" prior to my being able to replace it?

After be viewing a couple of YouTube videos, I am now
confident that loose torque converter bolts or cracked flex plate is the proper diagnosis. U should be able to handle the bolts and have someone who can change the flex plate if needed.
