I have a high milage (190k) Yaris that has the Mazda 1.5L engine that is not sold in the states. The car was purchased used approximately a year and a half ago and is in great condition overall. Right after purchasing the car, I did a transmission fluid pan drain and fill, oil change, plugs & air filter. In the past few months, I started experiencing delayed starting via the push button. The car would crank but take longer than usual. I narrowed it down to most likely the fuel pump, so I just replaced that, and it I think that fixed the delayed start problem due to low fuel pressure. I still have some start up rattle noise after the car has been sitting overnight. Does anyone one have an idea what this is from and if it's something that needs to addressed right away or if it's not worth messing with on a high mileage commuter car. Cheers 🍺

I always blame the oil filter anti-drain back valve(ADBV) not holding oil in the filter.
I see in a YouTube video that the Mazda2/Yaris has the oil filter pointed upward so, oil shouldn't drain down back into the oil pan wouldn't be the issue
Have you changed filters brands or even part#'s and are still experiencing the start-up rattle?
At 190K miles, the timing chain guides could be worn, causing rattle upon startup.

Mazda Skyactiv engines are famous for startup clatter noise; the engine retards the timing on cold startup in order to heat the cat quickly. I don't know if the noise in question is related, but just say'n...

Haven't tried different filters yet on this car, so I can't speak to that. I'll try a different filter on the next OCI just for grins. Thanks

Didn't notice near the same noise with our 2023 CX-30 we had for a short time, but we only had it for less than 15k miles. I have read that they are noisy so perhaps it's not that big of a deal. (y)
