Engine Overheated - Change Oil?

Thanks for all of your comments. The overheated oil and filter have been replaced with new G-Oil and a new MicroGreen filter. I'm sending a sample of the overheated oil for analysis and will post the results in a few weeks.

Below are 5 oil analysis reports of G-Oil from:
(1) Petroleum Quality Institute of America (VOA)
(2a) Wear Check (April VOA)
(2b) Wear Check (May VOA)
(3) Wear Check (Oct used oil analysis - Overheated Engine)
(4) Wear Check (Nov used oil analysis)

G-Oil VOA's have been controversial. The PQIA virgin oil analysis (sample #1) posted below appears at URL: http://www.pqiamerica.com/January2012A/January2012R2/goil.htm. In April of 2012, I submitted a VOA sample (#2a) to Wear Check and received questionable results that did not match the PQIA analysis.

In May, I asked Wear Check to retest the original sample that I had sent to them. The results (#2b) were closer to that measured by PQIA. This produced a storm of controversy in this thread: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2612937#Post2612937. Other VOA's of G-Oil with different formulations have appeared in this forum (i.e., https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2740477#Post2740477).

My October used oil analysis sample (#3) below was obtained following a coolant leak. On October 3, 2012, I stopped for a gas fill-up, noted the mileage and proceeded onto the highway. There was nothing amiss during the fill-up. 14 miles later, I noticed the engine overheating and pulled over. A coolant hose had burst and steam rose from the engine compartment. At that point, the G-Oil only had 493miles on it. After making repairs, I completed my trip home and submitted a used oil analysis with 940 miles on the oil. Sample (#4) was the new oil that replaced the overheated sample (#3) and has 943 miles.

A comparison of samples (#3) and (#4) contrasts the overheated oil (#3) with non-overheated oil (#4). Both are used oil analysis.

The amount of contaminants, such as silicon and sodium, are higher in the overheated oil (#3) than in the non-overheated oil (#4). Wear indicators, such as the amount of metals, appear slightly higher in the overheated oil (#3) than in the non-overheated oil (#4).

You could change the oil out, but it would be only for making you feel better, IMO.

I had an extended overheating event on the way to Montana several years ago in the Camaro. Our host had been kind enough to tell us where the cheapest gas was and I went to fill up. RIGHT before it was full I noticed I was filling with a HIGH percentage of ethanol. Shinola!, I said. I was unaware that SD had that many choices at the pump and it did not register.

Along the way the car started heating up in the mountains. It stayed way hot even with the heat on full and the windows down in the heat of the summer. This went on until I got down to half a tank and put in normal fuel. The temp went down some but still not normal. It didn't get right until the fill up in Montana.

I was using GC and changed oil and did a used oil analysis when we got back to Omaha. The used oil analysis came back completely normal.

I think it would take a lot to really bugger up an oil fill.
