Engine out of car, now what?

Bought a non-running car for $50 primarily to get the transmission out of it, along with a bunch of other usable parts. Pulled the engine out of it yesterday. It's on an engine stand in my garage now. Assuming it has decent compression and I might want to use it in one of my cars someday, what do I do with it now? I'm thinking of draining the old oil, pulling the pan off and cleaning out as much gunk as I can. New pan gasket, valve cover gasket. Probably replace the front and rear crank seals, cam seal, etc. Then what? Put fresh oil in it? LC? Auto RX it?

Fill it with fresh oil and put some in each cylinder and turn it over by hand. That should be more than enough...

When I pickle an engine I clean everyting I can get to. I then make block off plates for every opening. I then fill the engine full of cheap conventional oil. Buy full I mean full!! I put the engine on a crate with a drip pan under neath it! When you need it you mount it in on an engine stand and put a 5 gallon pail under it and drain all of the oil out. After you drain all of the oil out you remove all of the plugs and turn the engine over by hand with a breaker bar.

Use RTV for the valve covers or you will get leaking if you fill it completly full of oil. In the abscence of any air you will not get any rusting and the clean oil will not harden the seals like dirty oil does!

try to flush the cooling system as best you can with rv antifreeze, keep the cooling system inlet and outlet capped off and full of this rv antifreeze.
