Hi,

Could you please advice what kind of engine oil would be the best fit for more than 10 year old cars?

I am using Toyota Camry 1998, and the temperature of the location that i am living is normally between 25 and 35 in all over the year.

Your comments will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
sanlen

Suksabai Sanlen,

My wife is from Cambodia and had to run away during the Khmer Rouge slaughter.

Hope all is well with you & your family!

Hi,

Thanks all for your reply. What if i go to 5W - 40? whould there be any different? would it affect on fuel consumption?

Thanks,
sanlen

What does your ON state for the temperature range you will encounter? I would not consider anything different than the recommended viscosity from the MFR, which likely is specced higher in your area than in ours. Assuming it does not burn much, a good HDEO is a smart option in the right viscosity.

No, she hasn't been back yet, we may go in a year or two. She lived on a self-sufficient farm. Saw her Dad shot to death, saw her Mom starve to death in a camp, had to step over dead bodies, on and on.....

5-40 would be great.
But this almost certainly means a full synthetic.
A conventional 'dino' 15-40 HDEO would be very nice, as well.

But this does not rule out a 5-30. I would use a 5-30 unless your engine sees very high temperatures or is burning oil.

Cambodia weather is like Thailand or Vietnam, mostly in the 80's in winter and 100+ in summer, low over night is rarely below 60's even in winter. For that kind of temperature I would use xW40.
