I bought a 97 VOLVO 850 GLT wagon about 120K this April. It drives good and I like it. I notice the engine misses 1.5 qt oil on the 2000 miles I drove. I have the maintenance records from the previous owner at Grossinger Volvo in Chicago. I found the durablend oil is used. I search and guess that is the Valvoline synthetic blend oil, unknown grade. I need some advice on what oil I should put in this volvo. My understanding is that it's good for turbo engine to use synthetic oil, but the synthetic oil will make the existing oil leak worse.

Should I use high mileage oil? I heard some people stop oil leaking after using the high mileage oil. Is high mileage oil all conventional oil with some additives?

Should I use conventional oil or synthetic or synblend blend oil? The manual says synthetic. Due to the existing oil leaking, what oil should I use ?

Your advice is highly appreciated. If possible, please tell the brand and grade of oil to use. I am in midwest, mild in summer, very cold in winter.

We've got a 93 850 (non-turbo). I'm running Castrol GTX 5w-30 in it right now but I ran Valvoline MaxLife 10w-30 for a long time and it did very well. UOA here.
