Engine detailing.. with tire shine foam!?

Thanks for directions. I was lazy, spray the engine bay with Castrol Super Clean, wait few minutes then rinse it off with tap water from garden hose, after rinsed I let the hood up to have it air dry. If I was not so lazy on that day I would use the shopvac(blower) to dry.

Next time will try your method and hope that my engine will be as nice as yours.

Nice job, I'm going to have to give that a try. Pledge is pushing their products for car care. I might give it a try on my leather seats too.

They have an Extra Moisturizing formula for antiques. I`m thinking of trying that on my leather. I`m just not overly satisfied with the way most automotive leather products leave everything sticky.

I've used tire shine for years on my engine bays. Easy to use and the foam creeps into the hard to reach crevices. It works great.

Here is my 2008 Volvo S40's engine bay. I just detailed it using 303. Came out really well and lasts for months before getting dusty again. 303 seems to stand up to the heat really well:

I've used Pledge on my titanium bicycle frame for years. It's got a bit of grease-cutter in it and also works very well on stainless steel appliances. Maybe it's time for my engine bay!

I`m curious, what exactly *is* Pledge? What`s it made out of? It says on the can that it contains no wax.

Aqua - When you are "Finished" with that car, I would love to buy it from you

Back on topic, I'm in need of power washing the engine bay. I'm hoping the sensors hold up! It is an old Jeep you know.

I'm completely blown away by the use of pledge and how well it works. Will have to get some.

Look up the msds. Seems like it is mostly water, with a bit of silicone oil and maybe some "alkanes" or light oil (naptha?)....it's hard to confirm this last ingredient.

John Deere specifically lists Pledge for cleaning the plastic components (fenders, etc.) on their Gators!

Here's my Pledge'd engine bay:

Not the most thorough job - I missed a few spots, and I didn't brush the debris off the top of my upper intake manifold... but for 10 minutes and $4 for some orange Pledge, I think it looks great!

People swear by Pledge for leather seats. Is Pledge safe for leather? Pledge claims it is. They recommend it actually.

Nice! Did you spray the 303 on everything under the hood? Then wipe it off?

I used the Pledge Lemon aerosol spray. A couple of weeks later and my engine bay still looks great! I always hated the way dressings/protectants would accumulate tons of dust and dirt and always remain sticky. Pledge doesn`t. I`ve been using Pledge Extra Moisturizing for my car`s interior plastics and it blows Armor All type stuff away! I still use leather creams for the seats and leather surfaces though. I only use Pledge for the plastics/vinyl. It`s absolutely stunning on the interior!

Is there any chance you can share your engine bay cleaning procedure, i really like the results you got out of pledge and your regiment

Thanks

When I detail my engine (which is now needed again 2 months down the road from all the pollen/[censored] in the air) I start with the air compressor to blow away all the loose grit/sand.

Then I plastic bag the alternator and take the hose with the "light shower" setting and rinse the whole thing down. Then I get some greased lightning and spray it everywhere that looks dirty, let it soak for about 10 minutes and rinse everything back off.

Next I take the electric leaf blower to quickly dry most areas and blow water out of areas it doesn't belong. Then I towel dry/soak up any other water. Start car and close the hood, for about 10 minutes. Then open the hood and everything is nice and dry and clean and ready for some 303 aerospace!

Then I spray 303 everywhere in the engine bay with the "spray" setting on the nozzle, let it sit for 5 minutes and wipe all the excess up with a microfiber cloth and make sure to fully coat everything in the engine bay.

Keeps it looking nice for quite a while, not too glossy but just the perfect shade of black to look new again.

Here`s how I do it:

I make a pail of car wash soap (I`ve been using Eagle 1 w/Nano Wax car wash soap).

I get a soft brush and scrub down the ENTIRE engine bay, getting it good and sudsy.

I wash off all the soap with a garden hose sprayer set on the medium pattern.

I very gently hand dry the entire bay with a soft beach towel.

I then generously spray Pledge on everything......engine bay, engine, all rubbers and plastics.

I wipe it all down with those blue paper shop towels.

Weeks later, everything is still shiny and fresh, and *no* dust, dirt,or grime. I now also do my entire interior with Pledge, except the stuff that genuine leather (steering wheel, seats, shifter knob, center console, and shifter boots). I use a dedicated leather conditioner for those areas. I use the Pledge Extra Moisturizing. Try it,you`ll be in total awe with the results. I`ll never use Armor All type protectants ever again.
