It is the threat of ammo being taxed 500% (or more) and the companies being sued out of business.

So everyone is stocking up until some common sense comes around.

Take care, Bill

Common sense is on backorder ...

Might be going to a gun show tomorrow, just to see if the gouging is too terrible. I'm having terrible luck finding ammo for the G23, even my indoor range is hit/miss.

I haven't seen any evidence of this 500% ammo tax... Most of it's just manufacturer's not being able to keep up with the demand from paranoid people.. I buy my self defense ammo online, but all my target ammo comes from Wal-Mart as unless you're reloading or BUYING A HUGE HUGE order, you won't find cheaper target pistol ammo.

Most of the ammo on Cheaperthandirt.com is sold out. I actually got better prices at The SportsmansGuide and ordered from there. No problem. I like to keep my stash around 25k rounds

Like I said, knee jerk over-reaction. Where do you people dream this stuff up?

What was it ?

a bill to increase taxes BY 500% (i.e. from say 10% to 50%), not TO 500%...and ten years ago...and it didn't get up.

The ammo manufacturers and sellers must feel like they've just cracked open a gold mine.

you still got ripped off at sportsmanguide... An example your member pricing on blazer brass 115gr FMJ is 11.37 plus shipping for 50 rounds. That same box is 8.97 at Wal-Mart...

Even for SD ammo, http://www.ammunitiontogo.com

Spend some time using Google and you'll find the answer.

I'm not going to get kicked off by RSP.

I did, and could only find an old 1999 bill that proposed increasing the existing tax by 500% of the tax rate, not 500% tax.

And no reference to it other than fearmongers in recent times.

Blah, blah, yada yada. The same old fear card that has been played for the last 8 years. Be afraid, it's patriotic! Most of us decided back in November that we've had enough of that [censored].

It's getting old, my friend. Time to think up something new.

With all that said, I looked on Cheaper/Dirt last night and they are completely sold out of 380 ACP, and of most 38 Spec. All hollowpoints are gone, only FMJ and wadcutters left. I need to go to Wally's World a little later today, I'll take a look in their sporting goods section and see what they have.

I still think this panic hoarding is a knee jerk over-reaction by certain people. Who are you getting ready to go to war with? Your neighbor? Come on now.

Do any of you guys know if a S&W snub 38 with the 5-round cylinder can safely handle +P loads?

I'm afraid you are correct, my friend. I would hope that more intellegence/saner thinking would prevail. Perhaps I hope for too much.

The gun show was a bust, they had very little ammo and what was there was pretty pricey, no good deals at all. Wal-Mart kills their prices, and even Academy/other retail sporting goods stores were a few dollars cheaper per box of 50 rounds of range ammo.

And your point is... :)

.357 sig is a high pressure round. You'll notice in the following picture you'll see that properly designed hollow point ammo performs very close regardless of caliber when expanded diameter and penetration are looked at...

All that sane thinking from the other side.

It has done wonders for your State...

Sadly I could have told you that. Once November came gun shows are a waste of time.

*If* you can find anything, the prices are out of wack.

Good luck, Bill
