I recently noticed that there are electronic oil testers available. I don't know that I would trust one as it does not seem to give an actual analysis of the oil.
Has anyone here ever used one and if so what do you think of the product.

You mean those transmittance ones? They're supposed to be able to check for contaminants though I suspect it's very inaccurate for any particle range and even if it was accurate for a particular size of contaminant particulate there are a whole bunch of other sizes it likely won't be able to read with even double digit percentage accuracy and if it were to somehow measure lots of different sized particles I wonder how it's logic chip computes that into a percentage score. These don't test for anything else. I don't really see how these can be useful for anything. If a transmission is suspected to be shedding enough fine metal to where this could be useful I'd rather do a lab analysis anyway.
