Electric Nascar

So, if the relationship to the mass produced cars is only skin deep, then I suggest it makes zero difference what you call them.
My guess is, it's all about sponsorship.
YUP.. I like the old days when a Plymouth was a Plymouth and a Ford was a Ford and a Mercury was a Mercury and a Dodge was a Dodge....

I still enjoy Nascar, but for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone thinks Toyota Camrys should be there competing against Mustangs and Camaros.

In my opinion, if Toyota Camrys are going to be there, they should be forced to be front wheel drive like the real ones.

Part of the historical draw of Nascar was that the cars were almost the same as what you could buy from your local dealer. Now they want you to cheer for rear wheel drive Camrys with big V8s in them and one lug nut per wheel that have absolutely nothing in common with anything that anyone can have out in the real world.
When NASCAR conspired with Goodyear to push Hoosier out of competing, that did it for me.

Loving the hate. I needed a laugh.

It’s all a farce. Profitable racing is just a huge advertising campaign.

I have a friend that runs a top Alcohol drag boat. from 7th grade we had minibikes hot rods the flat bottom drag boats at Lake Berryessa then he went pro. He said to me without sponsors this wouldn't be possible. A few years ago I went to the drag races when the funny cars were running and a car team car had the same name as the top Fuel hydro boat, I looked for the most important looking person and asked, his eyes light up and we chatted, He knew my friend that ran the Top Alcohol Hydro and started to tell me everything. He changed from boat to cars because of the sponsor money. He said the top fuel cars costs many thousands of dollars per run and I imagine the costs for any pro racing team is similar or higher.

I think that’s the problem. Racing is expensive and money has influence. I say that though as a big F1 fan, but I know everything is trying to sell to me. I used to be a big NASCAR fan, but I haven’t followed it in many years though.

I’m an adrenaline junky and I love racing. I wish I could have taken that path in life. I used to do autocross and did racing classes at Bondurant in Phoenix because I wanted to do road course stuff. I just didn’t have the connections to see it through and once I got out on my own and had to pay my own way I didn’t have time for racing.

I just love cars and driving in general. I just don’t have the ability(and possibly not the talent) to play in the big leagues. I know the Bondurant instructors who had racing backgrounds said I was on pace with them, so I do wonder what could have been if I was able to dedicate my time to it. Maybe I could have developed it into something, but life happened. That was 20 years ago now.

I just wonder how many people are out there in any form of racing, music, art, etc that really had the talent to go somewhere with it but never were able to make the right connections to get out there. I won’t begin to claim I would have been one of them, but I do wonder if I pushed harder if I could have taken it somewhere instead of letting life get in the way. Regardless of how the money gets involved I’m thankful racing exists to the level it does.

$$$$$$$$

from my viewpoint, about the only real reason for any interest in Nascar racing or race cars is actually going to a racetrack and taking it in as a sensory experience.. aka the noise and the smell and the crowds... like going to a live music show.. once you start watching it on TV it is just about as interesting as watching golf.

The OP article makes me want to throw-up.
"sustainability" "less fuel to burn" in a fire? Really? "clean energy"
If the above are concerns that ban the sport! PERIOD nothing can make racing earth friendly. My god, the "earth" agenda and fact that people actually think this is sincere.

We have entered the age that political agenda is now entering and regulating every part of our lives and the public rolls over. The corporations and pop tarts in the industries and sports, eat it up and promote it, not knowing they are puppets in a mental game.
(no politics_
Its appeasement just like you say, they are going to compromise themselves out of existence. They have a history of bending to the "latest thing" anyone remember their stint with BLM ?

I came across this video of Kyle Petty driving his father's 1970 Plymouth 426 HEMI Superbird on the street. It really shows the inside well, along with how they basically gutted the "stock cars" back then. Imagine pulling up next to a cop. A really beautiful car for being 54 years old.

Its good for the development of EV's, just like the past NASCAR cars were good for the development of all cars.
(assuming the drivetrain manufacturers are paying attention)

It would even be more boring than Soccer. Watching paint dry is more exciting.
I guess a little noise makes all the difference. I get personal preference and all but the noise thing is the weirdest one. I love a great sounding vehicle and all, but I don’t see it as a must when it comes to being the purest form of the car.

Electric isn’t silent anyway, though that’s usually the goal with street driven EVs. I have a feeling the gear whine would sound amazing in oval track. There’s some wild sounding EV race cars out there.

There is nothing " Stock " about these cars . Ford stopped being a Ford a long time ago . Same with every manufacturer represented . Now it's just in name only .

Having a child whose favorite movie was Disney/Pixar's Cars, the sound was always a big thing. But in the latest version they had a car that had a more distinct sound almost like an electric motor at high speeds. Of course the movies were kind of odd with anthropomorphic vehicles. The sequel had a racing series premised on different vehicle types on a track that had different surfaces.

I didn't necessarily get it, because most high-level racing is very much rules based. I get that there were times when some builders had distinct advantages, but they generally don't involve completely different technologies.
