Does anyone know about barbershop hair clippers/cutters. I have purchased a few cheaper models like the Harbor Freight kind and an Oster cheapo. They both do a terrible job and it takes several hours to cut my hair myself. I am thinking about getting an Oster Model 76 professional cutter, but I don't know what size blades to get. I always thought that clippers came with one set of blades, but there seems to be about a dozen different sizes. I do not mean the plastic stand-off combs that are used for height adjustments. I mean the actual metal cutting blades.

I have never heard of that at all.I have a cheap set of whal and oster and both work pretty good the main thing is keeping them clean and oiled.I tried to go to oster site to see what you mean but what a POS

Yup. Wife uses Wahl model MC2 on my hair. Not expensive. Think we got it at WallyWorld. Clean after every use and use Jig-A-Loo spray lube . Works great and cuts great!

What's the nasty thimble full of clear oil that comes with those $7 clippers? baby oil? "mineral oil"?

If it lasts one hair cut, it's still cheaper than a barber.

I've noticed the conair standoffs don't match the other brand I used to have. They both snap if you look at them wrong too.

I like the Wahl metal/chrome clippers from Walmart. I have super-thick hair and these work really well. Around $25 I think.

The original blades on a blue and yellow Wahl that cost $24 new cut through Old English Sheepdog fur (this is serious hair) for quite a few years. I still loan it out on occasion to cut human hair and it still works. Oil for storage has been PAM cooking spray (I never use that for cooking - yech!) which I rinse off with Johnson's baby oil before use.
