I had some time to kill this morning, so I called Castrol re: Edge 0W20. No official release date, look for this summer. When I asked about Moly, and if they use it like Honda and Toyota are doing in their 0W20, I was politely told it's a trade secret. I expected that answer but gave the question a shot anyway.

I was able to get 100*C Visc 8.85, 40*C Visc 38.62, but that info is already on the WWW.

I sent Castrol an e-mail last week asking when I could expect to find the 5w-20 on store shelves. The reply said simply "within six months". Unfortunately, after the last oil incident with my Focus, it's pretty much been determined I'm not going to waste money on anything other than Motorcraft Synthetic Blend or Castrol Syntec Blend.

These company's are getting stupid now what possible damage could just telling you if it had moly or not could have done?

a simple VOA could tell us that.

If Castrol wants to be secretive then I may just consider not buying any of there oil.

Some smart people around here suggest that information is kept secret and muddied up because of OTHER companies.
They simply don't want to divulge what is in there so any competitors are not given the 'EDGE'!

Mobil is the most secretive oil co. of all, they wont even tell what basestocks they use. Their tech people who answer the phones are Morons. I called and asked easy questions and they couldn't answer one of my questions. Their tech line is a joke.

A VOA of Castrol Edge 0W-20 will tell us how this oil compares to other 0W-20 oil's.

It will be interesting to see how this oil stacks up against Honda 0W-20 and Toyota 0W-20.

They are all secretive. I asked knowing pretty much what the answer was going to be. I found Mobil was the worst when it came to answering questions,

the gal at Castrol was actually very nice.

A VOA would tell the story. The truth is the average person, wouldn't go for a VOA, and no oil company is going to make getting the kind of info we Bitog'ers are after easy.

The larger the company becomes, it seems the less likely they are to divulge information. Amsoil has become a bit like this lately.

It's nice when you speak to some of the smaller companies like Redline that don't really give a .....about it, within reason of course.

Knowing the obsession people make over base oils, it's no wonder these companies don't talk about it. Who cares if it has moly though really? There are other ashless friction modifiers that can be used and moly isn't a panacea anyway.

IMHO, Castrol spends more on advertising than producing a high end product.

CE 5w-20 IS already on the shelves and I believe there's a VOA/UOA posted on this stuff.

Since Castrol 0W-20 is specifically made to Toyota and Honda's requirements for a 0W-20 I think it will have a boat load of moly in it as that's a big part of the chemistry, not just the ultra low vis', high VI.

Somewhat off topic, but Pennzoil in their answers to the Ultra questions, said their soon to be released 0W-20 will meet Toyota and Honda's spec's for a low vis oil and will have a 40C vis under 40cSt.

It will be interesting who hit's the market first.
Royal Purple also have said they're coming out a low vis 0W-20 oil soon.
I'm sure more will soon follow.
