For an AOL user, I suggest finding where the power cord plugs into the computer, remove it, never plug it back in.

Seriously though, Vipre has been great for us.

Vamoose the AOL internet provider. Get Mozilla Firefox and enjoy the difference.

I have tried getting rid of the AOL browser, oh, I have tried....

I installed Chrome. What is the saying, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink...

Thanks for all the info. So far computer is working well despite AOL.

She does not need Firefox. If she wants to do a Google search, she just searches in her AOL browser for Google, then does a Google search. Very efficient. You get your results in a small window that is hard to read. Who needs to use the whole screen? It is a Windows operating system. Isn't it supposed to have a lot of windows inside of Windows?

I am sure she would not use Firefox. It took months for her to use Chrome one time.

No need to look for Google with Firefox. It's already built-into the browser, to the right of the address search window.

I had AOL for a few years. It's one of the worst browser offerings out there.

I appreciate the help.

Installing Chrome was my attempt to have her do a Google search in a browser that was designed around the Google search engine. Simple and fast. But she wants AOL instead (Bloated, full of ad windows, everything managed by AOL, etc.)

My last post was supposed to illustrate the humor of the situation (or how sad it is). It does illustrates the reality of the situation. She refuses to use other browsers. My problem is even if a better browser is installed, she will not use it. If I suggest a change, I get a very emotional response like "this makes me too nervous, lets not talk about it".

I have set anti virus and other programs to run automatically. That is a step in the right direction.
