Edmunds Pick-Up Truck Comparison

The interior on the Silverado and RAM both look really nice. Ford is trying too hard and the Toyota looks absolutely ridiculous.

These are the criteria by which I judge PU's.

I thought the interiors in the Tundra's looks nice, well for the first gen anyways.

I would have expected Ford to be in first place, like all other pickup truck reviews.

For some reason a lot of people still put more emphasis on horsepower than anything else with trucks. It wasn't that long ago when under 250 HP was acceptable in a full size V8 pickup, but now anything less than 320 HP is "underpowered." The F-150 may not be the fastest, but who really cares? It can still do everything the others can do. For the kind of use a lot of these trucks see, they have more than enough power.

Rather than focusing so much on building engines with high HP numbers, maybe they need to spend more time on the styling. This is purely subjective, but full size trucks have more and more ridiculous styling with each new model. The Sierra is probably the best looking one, and even it is a little gaudy. The F-150 looked great a year ago, but Ford is big on the "school bus" look now. The Silverado could be a good looking truck with a completely different grille, front bumper, and head lights. The Tundra is just strange looking all around. I think Dodge actually improved on the Ram's looks a little with the 2009 update, but they are the only one.

+1. I really liked the styling of the older F-150 (the late 90's models), and the previous generation Silverado. I'm not a fan of the "school bus" look, as you put it, on the Fords and the Silverado has become more generic looking (a disturbing trend with all GM vehicles, it seems). The Ram is an improvement over the old, and the Tundra is a mess--the old Tundra was at least somewhat sensible looking, the new one is trying way too hard.

That may be true but take a look how the vehicle weights have increased since 250 HP was acceptable. Now they need 320 HP to move that much steel.

Mitsu FE180 series trucks can carry over 9 tons, yet have a 185HP, 391 lbft motor. You may not rocket onto the freeway, but they can move the load.

Sort of harks back to an earlier thread:

The lightest truck (Silverado) also stopped in the least distance. Go figure.

Touches a bit on the thread about Turbo Diesels

Its unfortunate the BOSS was not available for this test. Being the heaviest truck with the least power in a truck drag race "review", it doesn't surprise me that even being as well appointed as it is, it placed last.

I think a lot of people would, including some of the automotive publications. The problem is a lot of the vehicles manufacturers put in their test fleets are loaded or close to it. If a magazine wants to test something like an F-150 STX 2WD, they are probably not going to be able to get one from the test fleet. Ford will give them a Lariat or King Ranch instead.
