Ecotecs and PP....

Well I've been running Super Tech 5w30 conventional in my '09 Malibu and it runs as smooth and quiet as can be, without using a drop. Goes out to 9,000 miles on the OLM, but I've changed out at 8k. Ecotec's are super easy on oil.

I've been running nothing but $10.50 Quaker State or Mobil5000 on our fleet of ecotecs. Neither burns a drop of oil and my girlfriends car was not maintained properly before I got a hold of it.

If that SuperTech conventional was cheaper, I would buy it. I always pony up a buck more for a "name brand" oil even though I know it doesn't matter.

I change ours both out at 5k miles now. The 03 pontiac is acually spec'ed for 3k mile drain intervals. The 03 saturn has an early version of the OLM, and it goes off right at 5k miles every time.

ST is cheaper than QS/PYB here by a couple bucks.

I still buy the QS/PYB for our applications though.

ECOTECS are good engines...

For some reason, Chev got both the 2.2 OHV I-4 and the Ecotec 2.2 I-4 'just right'.

They are both bulletproof engines that will run forever on anything - 20-weight, 30-weight 40-weight - it just doesn't matter.

We've seen good used oil analysis on 5W-20, there is a 25k-mile UOA on HDD 5w30 w/o a drop of consumption....years from now, these engines will be seen as the 'slant six' of the 2000's.

Considering how the wife drives, I agree.
