Ecore media differences?

I saw the e-core filters for Motorcraft FL1A applications in SuperTech and ValueCraft. Both looked the samea. A lot of filter media showing on the inside with merely a plastic cage to hold it from collapsing. Couldn't tell you what media type, other than typical pleated construction.

The media appears the same to me too. At least from outward appearance.
I'm wondering if the Ecore is designed around one specific type of media or if the media can vary by brand requirements as seems to be the case in Grease's version 3 oil filter study. Comparing the old style AC, Mobil 1, STP, and Supertech there seemed to be signifgant differences. www.OilFilterStudy.com
