Problem - no spark at plug

have tested with 3 different plugs, still no spark... (all grounded properly etc)

used an inline spark tester with adjustable gap and was able to spark across 1/4 inch gap, generated about 20,000v.

still no spark at plug...

I realize it seems like a crucial piece of info is missing and in my almost 30 years of working on small engines - if someone told me this scenario I would assume they are leaving something out - but I have been working on this issue for a few weeks now and cannot make ANY headway... has anyone ever seen this issue???

here are the specifics about the engine in case there is a known issue I am unaware of:

When you move the wire to attach the tester, a break in the wire may make contact in the new position which can fool you into thinking the wire is OK. What shape in the plug connector in?

No visible signs of wear to the wire, boot or connection into the coil.... And when testing for spark (at the actual plug) - I moved it around a LOT when finding a grounding spot... Obviously I can't be sure I recreated the exact same condition as when the inline tester is present, but in the weeks I have been working this issue I would think it likely that I accidently recreated it!!!!!

The ignition coil is under a lifetime warranty - BUT you are required to have a certified echo dealer test the existing coil AND order and install the new one - and because i can get spark (at 1/4" gap with an inline tester - I am sure they will not replace the coil....
