EBC greenstuff/plain rotors vs DF Geoperformance Drilled/slotted rotors/5000 pads vs others?

Hey all i have a 2014 acura rdx and i need to change out my fronts since they are warped pretty bad. Not sure whats on there rn since the vehicle was used.

I drive city/highway and of course just want to get the best stopping power I can just for safety. Never know when you are gonna need it so why not. I don't care about dust or noise or any of that.

I heard good things about EBC and I can get there greenstuff pads + plain rotors for this vehicle for about $270 for the fronts which I thought was a bit steep. This is my budget I would say and was wondering if anything else is better per say.

I looked at Buybrakes and they have the DFC Geoperformance Rotors-Drilled and Slotted w/ 5000 Advanced Brake Pads for about $240 for the fronts

They also have the DFC Geoperformance Rotors Slotted w/ 5000 Advanced Brake Pads w/ Hdwr for about $231

Lastly on the lower price range they have DFC GEOSPEC Coated Rotors with 5000 Brake Pads for about $150

Of course there are tons of more brands there but its hard for me to tell whats better. If EBC is truly as good as people say they are, is that the best to get at $270 for the fronts? or is a diff brand/set technically better? Rockauto also has tons so maybe I can get the above DFC or powerstop for cheaper on there

They also got Powerstop and R1 but It is so difficult for me to tell whats better.

I just finished up a 500 mile drive through the mountains of PA with my newish ebc rotors and pads and their pulsing big time. Maybe 4K on them. 1st time I’ve had an issue with their rotors.

Don't use drilled or slotted rotors. They are inferior to regular rotors. The most important thing about rotors is that they're coated, so they won't rust in a few hours.

Though there's nothing wrong with the Greenstuff pads, the EBC Blackstuff (Ultimax2) pads and plain rotors are also a good combo.

If price is a concern, get the EBC Blackstuff pads, and then get any coated rotors from Rock Auto. While Powerstop Geomet or Bosch Quietcast would be the best of those rotors, anything in the gray section of Rock Auto other than Centric would be good, too. Wagner's E-coated rotors are also good (in the blue section). Any of those 3 rotors along with the Blackstuff pads would be around $200 total.

The Top Notch Geoguard rotors from RA and the EBC Blackstuff pads would be the lowest price.

appreciate it, and u mean those Powerstop Geomet or Bosch Quietcast would be better then ebc or kinda the same diff?

They’re ebc plain rotors and ultimax pads. Ive seen a couple of pad issues lately. My nephew and I both installed green stuff pads, his was a Silverado and mine was a Nissan rogue. His pads were very loose in the in the clips and knocked from reverse to forward and vice versa. Mine were so tight I had to file them. Ebc mailed us both out new pads, no questions asked, which was great. I also had to take a millimeter off these ultimax to get them to fit. Just a warning, the green stuff will dust so bad initially that it will drive a person insane. The bite and performance is out of this world though. I’m going to heat these things up today and see if I can’t smooth out the pad deposits, which I’ve never experienced with ebc. There’s really no bedding process, so they say with their break in coating.
 
Against my better judgement (solely basing it on how cheap they were) I used dynamic friction crap once. All the Mazda nerds on some group swear by them. Mine squeaked cold, and the rotors developed a pulsation very quickly. Pads barely wore, but after about 50k (still looking like they had 3/4 of their pad life left if not more) the linings fell off the backing. I guess their gluing method didn’t work very well? I let them know about it (not seeking a warranty as I wouldn’t have put their garbage back on my car again) but they couldn’t have cared less. The linings falling off is a pretty big safety concern.
 
I ordered Ultra Hc from Walmart, whos' the only place I've found that sells them, minus advance auto. If they last on my Rogue I'll buy them again. After the coating wore off the face polished to a mirror like finish and they're wobble free. Of course, so were my ebc rotors till yesterday. I've done about 5, 60 to 10 stops today but won't know if it helped until I get them heated up on a 200 mile cruise home through the mountains. I can push the car with ease in neutral and the brake fluid hasn't moved off of full so I'm 99% sure nothings hanging up.
 
90% of people will be better off with PLAIN rotors. EBC rotors are made in UK and have very good balance and coating.
EBC rotors are actually balanced to a tight spec.

Akebono is the go to for most Japanese brands here if you don't mind ceramic performance.

EBC greenstuff is made for smaller compact cars. They do have different green stuff for SUVS and trucks. Green stuff 6000 and 7000 series.
 
awesome so pads aside, ebc plain rotors are worth the price if i understand correctly? cuz they might be around 1.5-2x more then the bosch/powerstop
 
I`ve had EBC rotors (plain) and red stuff pads on all corners on my car, front set had to be changed due to vibration (inspection failure) and i had to change pads at the rear as friction material separated from backing plate. Worst thing about whole thing, i`ve spent a fortune for a whole set of rotors and pads at a quite of a expence only to have them swapped way too early before they were worn out. And i kinda never felt any increase of braking power running EBC brakes either, that is at daily driving my car. So my tip, run OEM style rotors and pads and upgrade your tires instead as good tires kinda matter a lot more of overall grip (my personal experience). I kinda hate to ruin your dilemma but i think in the end you will waste serious cash on "upgraded" rotors and pads only to toss them to bin after they get warped or rusted way too soon.

agreed i am afraid of that too, i want a good rotors that doesnt have issues or easily warp or pulse and i feel like i have read a few people getting some bad ones lately but then i start thinking that there made in the uk and coated in vegas which should technically mean better quality then china but seems like the same diff. dilemma indeed

Feels like rotors and pads are something so expendable nowadays that perhaps running oem style are the best option and upgrading tires as they do matter a lot more since they are doing the hard work. I was dissatisfied with EBC brakes that i`ve spent a fortune on only to toss them in the bin prematurely...
