The dealer informed me that I need brakes soon. Apparently, I have 4mm on front and 5 on rear. They say some of the sound I am hearing is due to rusted rotors. Car only has 23k miles. I already have EBC yellow stuff pads for front and rear. Looking for a good replacement rotor. SOmething that is OE equivilent or better and hopefully coated. Not really looking for slotted or drilled.

Are there any suggestions that you guys think would be good options? Maybe EBC rotors too? Subaru is always an option but I would love to have something coated if possible, to combat some rust for a while. And if they perform better, I'm down. I'm also realistic. This car isn't a sports car regardless of it being called an Impreza Sport. It's slow was crap; especially compared to my S4.

I have powerstop geomet coated rotors all around on my Legacy. They've been on there 2 years and are doing well. I'm not seeing the rust jacking I've had with several other brands. They are also doing well on the 3 other subarus I've replaced rotors on, I think the oldest is going on 4 years.

Has anyone ever used EBC rotors, whether non slotted/drilled or slotted/drilled?

As long as they’re not heavily grooved and have thickness left, the OEM rotors will be nearly impossible to beat on bang for the buck. You’ve already paid for them. I had good pad life and rotor results from the EBC Ultimax. After all, it’s an Impreza Sport, not a WRX. Unless you’re tracking the car there’s no sense in going past a pad upgrade.

23k miles? If they aren't warped, knock the rust of with a file or grinder and keep on truckin'. There is nothing mystical going on here.
Yeah, I'm not replacing them due to just rust. The told me that pads were down to 4mm and 5mm. Just trying to get my info together before I decide to replace. I like coated rotors due to less rust up top but that doesn't mean OEM are out for me.

Rust on the rotor shouldn't be audible unless it is on the wheel face, but you can knock that off with a brush/wire wheel. It would be cosmetic, since the pad is going to wipe away any oxidation on the rotor face.

I already have the EBC yellow stuff pads for both axles. I didn't pay for them. I won them so it is my intent on using them if/when I can. And you are correct, it is NOT a WRX. As I said above, just looking to see if there are better options for rotors than OEM. Not looking for slotted or drilled. Just something that will perform as good or better than OE and rust less; if that is even possible.

If you really want something that is less prone to rust, then check rockauto for some of the "fully coated" rotors. They have an entire category for those.

I’m not arguing with what you’re saying. I’m just saying there’s no question the OEM rotor is good quality, especially for the price of free. Not all aftermarket rotors, even pricier ones, guarantee better performance. I agree you should not look for anything drilled, ever, unless it’s a track only car and you’ve got big $. Slotted and dimpled is fine; I’ve had the PowerStop slotted/dimpled rotors on my ‘07 Impreza for about 4 years now and they’ve been really good, but honestly on a non-HP car that’s not tracked, they’re not needed and just add another route of complexity.

I wouldn't necessarily trust the dealer's assessment. The rear brakes tend to wear twice as fast as the fronts on Subarus. I went through this with three subies in a row. A Legacy, Crosstrek and Forester.

Yeah, drilled never. Drilled iron rotors are also worse for the track.

I agree man. If I have to get OEM when it is time, I have no issue with that. Was just looking for something that would hold up better with rust. I got OEM put on my Legacy when it was time. Didn't want to mess around with anything else. For the Impreza, I would do OEM pads too but I got these EBC lying around and would rather use them than let them go to waste.

My Legacy had the rears wear faster too. Always found that weird. I wonder why though... My wife's CR-V is the same way. On my S4, I had the fronts replaced 2-3 times before I had to do the rears.
