eBay dumping auctions???

it's not what you think. They are just doing it for the "buy it now" auctions. Instead of having a fixed price "buy it now" auction expire in 7-10 days. They are now extending it to 30 days for the same price as the 7 day auction. It behaves like a 30 day classified newspaper ad. It benefits the "buy it now" sellers.

So the auctions still stay the same? Perhaps I didnt read close enough.

I dont really like the "have to use paypal" type emphasis in the article. Im not keen on paypal, as to accept credit cards, you have to agree to a high level of fees, and then are stuck with that structure evermore - even if folks pay with their balance (which used to not cost a fee to be able to do).

I use the paypal credit card to get a percentage back, but it never recoups the losses. Paypal is a looser to me.

I used to think that until I had a seller try to screw me over, and then sit and ignore my email messages for a week.

As soon as I opened a complaint case with PayPal, he was more than willing to listen to me, and do what needed to be done. I ended up with 100% of my money back from the seller, plus a total refund of my return shipping costs to the seller.

PayPal records all communication between buyer and seller (that takes place via their website) once a complaint is opened. The seller was a bit cocky at first, but once he realized it was all being documented, he settled down and did what needed to be done.

Now that a seller can't leave negative feedback on a buyer, he's going to get the feedback that he deserves as well. I'm going to wait a couple of weeks before he gets it though.

Ebay were forced to back down here when they tried to push through the paypal or nothing else doctrine.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ruled it anti-competitive conduct and forced Ebay to leave open other payment options, including COD and Bank direct debit

Well, PayPal will not be the only payment option in the US either. Credit card, debit card and COD will be available payment options.

So let me get this straight, as I havent sold much there in at least a year...

If I sell something, then have a deadbeat buyer who doesnt pay, I can't leave negative feedback?

What is the point of feedback if it doesnt show the full picture?

As someone who buys and sells equally on e-bay, I don't mind this policy.

As a seller, if a buyer flakes on me all I'm out is some time and hassle. Recently I sold some audio equipt and it took the buyer almost 3 weeks to send me the money. Beyond the hassle of numerous emails sent, I was out nothing. Once I received payment I shipped the item and all was well.

As a buyer, if I send money for an item and never hear from the seller again, I'm completely screwed. This happened to me once and while PayPal arbitration worked for me (I know it doesn't for everyone), I still reamed the seller on his feedback. Without arbitration I would have been out over $100.

Buyers have a lot more at risk from flaky sellers than the other way around so I'm supportive of this new policy.
